Silent reflux + formula

Hi all,

So my 12 week old is currently being treated for silent reflux. She coughs, splutters, holds her breath and sometimes chokes during her feeds. We have tried c&g anti reflux milk, carobel, gaviscon and she has now been prescribed omeprazole. The omeprazole does seem to be having some effect but it's not completely solved and feeding times still feel quite stressful and nerve-wracking due to the choking.
She is currently on kendamil formula and i know that dairy can exacerbate reflux. She is also on colief drops - not because of colic but because they help break down the lactose which has massively helped my daughter. I know kendamil uses whole? Semi-skimmed? (Can't remember!) Milk as opposed to skimmed like most other formulas. Is there any chance kendamil could be making her reflux worse?

Thanks SmileSmile

Hi
Not sure if it may be making it worse. My little one did hve reflux but
colic drops worked for her. Just wanted to say my now 2 year old DD has used kendamil and she is thriving. Many people have commented on how well she is reaching milestones etc and i always recommend when mums ask which milk brand to use. Not really answering your question as such but I suppose wanted to say Kendamil worked very well for me. Hope things settle for your DD x

Thanks for your reply 😊 we do love the kendamil and she is doing really well on it! (She's been on it for 6-7 weeks now). Defo won't change unless there's a chance it could be making things worse for her x

Hi,
My DD has reflux and is on Omeprazole and Gaviscon. She's 8.5 months old and we have tried pretty much every formula going.

Kendamil is a great formula but it is very rich. I believe that this can exacerbate reflux.

I've done so much reading and I have moved my DD onto Hipp organic 1 as it's meant to be the gentlest on their tummies.

I don't have the answers I'm afraid but there's hope that your little one could grow out of it between 5-7 months as her sphincter develops 🤞🏻🤞🏻 (although that doesn't help now).

If dairy is an issue there will usually be symptoms pointing towards this.

Have you checked her for tongue tie?

Hi there! My son is 3 months and was diagnosed with reflux and a cmpa. He’s on Alimentum now but as far as the reflux- per his pediatrician we add baby cereal to his bottle to thicken it (a teaspoon per ounce)and keep his formula down so he hasn’t needed meds & it has helped significantly- the days of his projectile vomiting everywhere seem years ago... even tho it’s only really been about a month lol best of luck with everything this can be so hard on all of us ❤️

Kendamil made my DD’s reflux worse as did Hipp Organic - every baby is different though. Is the teat you’re using too fast? That could be what’s causing her to choke, cough and splutter.

Mine was the same for weeks. We ended up with omeprazole aswell but it didn't seem to make mu h difference and eventually she grew wise to it and just spat it all straight back out. I switch to sma lactose free milk and that seems to have helped. Not straight away, it took a couple of weeks, and it also massively reduced her wind.
Coleif doesn't break down all the lactose which I wasn't aware of and I persevered with both my other children. Wish I had known I could buy lactose free milk over the counter.

Oh and I also switched from mam bottles, which everyone else seems love, to doctor brown bottles, which I used with my first 2 but picked mam because everyone said they were better. Imo they're not.
