Poo withholding - please help, feeling desperate!

Hello all,

Has anyone got any advice to get out of the cycle of poo withholding. DD is 2.6, has done really well with wees for potty training but unfortunately seems to be witholding poo after having had a bit of constipation.

We've been to the doctor and got movicol so she is no longer actually constipated or finding it painful but won't actually go to the loo.

We've tried all the sensible things of rewards charts, bribing, lots of reassurance and love. Nothing is working. She just holds it in until she can't anymore and has an accident.

It's so distressing as she is visibly very upset and uncomfortable when she is holding it in. It's also sort of frustrating because we know she'll be so much happier if she just goes to the loo! What do we do?

Maybe take a step back and offer a pull up or nappy to poo in until she gets back into going when she needs it. You can then work on using the potty/toilet after she is regular again.

@dementedpixie thanks so much for replying. I thought of trying that but she still has a nappy for nights but she won't go in that either Sad. I think it's more a problem with actually going rather than toilet IYSWIM
