Undescended testicle in 12 year old

My son is 12 years old and i think he has an undescended testicle. He was taking a shower and we were chatting about puberty etc and he said he could only feel one testicle. It's only really become noticeable since he started puberty and the other one has started to get bigger. I have tried to feel for it, but am not sure if it's there or not. Should i take him to see Doctor?

Absolutely, get it investigated ASAP, it may need an op to lower it. Good luck.

Yes make it priority. My ds was born this way and had an op at 1yr to bring it down and yearly check ups until he was 5 .
It needs to be investigated, nothing to worry about but it's important to get it sorted sooner rather than later

Yes, definitely.

Without wishing to panic you, my DH had both of his surgically brought down after the age of two, and he's totally infertile now, not a single thriving sperm.

If it's only one testicle, your DS may still be fertile, but it's definitely something that needs seeing to sooner rather than later.

Hi, thanks for your replies. We went to the docs and he said its as if there are 2 testicles on one side of the scrotum and the other side is empty. He said its possible the smaller of the 2 might be non functional. Got a scan next week and a referral to a Urologist.

Hi @vvder,

How did it go with the Dr? My son was in the same situation and had an op about a year old. Unfortunatly the undecended testicle wasnt functioning and he had further surgery.

How are you getting on?

Hey, so he had an op in June to lower the undescended testicle.
I guess we just have to wait and see now, we were told it might not grow or function. I just hope the other one functions ok.
My son was actually born prematurely, and i cannot believe it was missed, given the amount of check ups he had. When he was born, at one point the doctor thought he had a hernia, and now i think of it, i reckon that could have been the undescended testicle she could feel in his abdomen!
Anyway, as a 12 year old, he found the whole operation experience very traumatic, and was obsessively checking his testicle to make sure it was still there, for weeks after the op. The surgeon also told us, that he has an increased risk of testicular cancer, so my son stresses about that a lot too!
