Is this normal?

My 2.2yo son has started to refuse his lunch, only wanting to eat some bread, if anything! He eats breakfast and he devours his dinner! I offer him a snack in the afternoon, which he either eats or refuses... surely its a long time for him to go without food? Before he used to eat breakfast, small morning snack, lunch, small afternoon snack, dinner and then milk at bedtime!

I'd keep an eye on his weight and what he's eating (ie getting a good mix) but yeah, they do this. Sometimes my 4.5yo eats more than his 11yo brother, some days he doesn't have much at all. They're only human. Monitor it for a few days and keep offering, I'm sure it'll change again soon!

Both of my children have alway eaten lots at two meals a day but not much at the third. It’s fine. With toddlers you should look at what they eat over a week rather than one meal or a day.

As PP said, keep an eye on his weight.

However that said, my DD(4) is very much the same. She has never been a huge lunch eater. She will eat multiple servings of breakfast (one morning she ended up with about 6 weetabix!) and eats a good size dinner, on an adult plate.

To be honest she most likely fills up so much at breakfast that she just isn't hungry by lunch.

She has a mix of healthy and more traditional snacks throughout the day and eats a good varied diet. Some days she will have a huge lunch, 2 peanut butter sandwiches in one sitting at the weekend! Others she will want practically nothing.

Mealtime are very much a social construct to be honest so best looking at the days and weeks as a whole.

My toddler is a small eater. Every meal is a nightmare unless it's something she really likes or snack type food. Getting her to sit and eat half of one of her main meals takes ages but her weight is healthy. I feel like she hardly eats 🤷🏻‍♀️
