School home visits?

Is this a thing? My mum asked if I had the home visit yet from dds school (she’s starting in sept) I said no, she was adamant it’s a thing and that sil has already had hers because they “want to see what kind of background the child comes from” 🤔 has anyone else had one?

It also helps with settling in. The child will meet the teacher and maybe a teacher assistant, so they know what the teacher looks like, and it can make things a bit easier. It's not universal but quite common. We had home visits for my DSs and they are now 14 and 15 so it's been going on for a while!

We are waiting for the date for ours.

Doesn't happen in my area either, also NW.

We had this for DS, he is now 16. We tidied up before the teacher came. He then brought down half of his toys to show the teacher, so I wouldn’t bother tidying up too much!

The headteacher came on the visit too, and she only came on the visit to us. I’ve always wondered why. I’m sure it was just to see how such a visit went but it was slightly disconcerting seeing her on the doorstep too (felt like we were seen as the going to be problem parents 😄)
