Heart Murmur

Hi there,

Well at my baby's 6 week check up the doctor thought my baby had a heart murmur. He did say not to worry too much they were quite common but he was referring my baby for a heart scan at the hospital to be checked out. He gave me a letter and it said on the letter that if I hadn't heard about an appointment from the hospital within a couple of weeks to ring the given number. 6 weeks went by and I still hadn't heard so I thought I best ring up. I did, they told me my baby's referral had been accepted but I was just in a queue.

My baby is now 6 months old and I still haven't heard. Should I be concerned? I think I've been laid back about it as the doctor didn't seem too concerned and I know there are back logs due to covid etc. However tonight I've ended up having a Google and started reading about holes in the heart etc and now I feel a bit worried. How quickly should you usually be seen for this kind of thing?? Any help/advice would be appreciated. Thank you 😊.

My son has a heart murmur and we had a heart scan. They signed him off so were happy with him. The murmur got picked up again when he was a toddler and getting checked over when he was unwell, zbut I said we’d had a scan previously then they didn’t seem concerned. I would chase it up but don’t panic I’m sure everything is normal.

My little boy had a heart murmur picked up on day 2 of life whilst still in hospital so he went for a scan that day. The cardiologist wasn’t concerned and said it’s really common.

He had a follow-up appointment at about 9 months of age where he had another scan. The heart murmur could still be heard when the doctor listened to his chest but the scan wasn’t worrisome and he was discharged.

The murmur was still there another year later when we were at the GP surgery for a completely different matter but he didn’t seem concerned about it.

My son is coming up 4 now and I have no idea if he still has the murmur or not but nobody has ever been particularly bothered about it.
