Toddler won't feed himself

DS is 13 months old and is still spoonfed at mealtimes. He happily eats finger food as well, so we might have something like chicken casserole and mash (which I will feed to him from a spoon) with veggies or bits of fruit for dessert (which he will pick up and eat himself).

Should he really be feeding himself with a spoon by this age? He will just open his mouth when ready for his next bite and doesn't make any attempt to grab the spoon off me. When I do make him take the spoon, he just lifts it above his head and looks like he's about to throw the food across the room, at which point I intervene! What do everyone else's toddlers do?

I wouldn't worry, finger food are great but give him a spoon and something he can eat with it along with finger foods. He will get it, he's still really young x

I worried about this with both of mine too, but they did it in their own time. It is just practice really and you can't force them. He'll do it when he's ready don't worry x
