Thinking about re-training as a MW, any advice?

That's it really. I am in the fortunate position that DP has offered to support me through training if I want to do it.

Can anyone offer any advice/information please?

Snaf is a trainee midwife.
I looked into it but the time commitment was too great for the stage of life I'm at - so something for the future, perhaps.
iirc they preferred that you have had some study experience within the past three years - I could be wrong about that, and am not sure it was a 'rule' as such.
Good luck!

Thanks guys, right, now how do I get hold of Snaf???

Contact Another Mumsnetter
Or I will get her on facebook and ask her to come on later

Hi bratnav - Pruni told me you were thinking of taking the plunge - send me a CAT and I'll be happy to give you the low-down

This is a great site Be aware that places are in very short supply - the course I applied for last year had over 300 applicants for 20 places; you will need to show evidence of recent study and have the equivalent of 2 A Levels or an access course, have relevant work experience and get through an interview. There is also no guarantee of a job at the end of the course and there are quite a few newly qualified midwives who are unemployed.

I did get a place but for me it would have been too much with 4 very small children so will probably re-apply in a couple of years when they're all at school. Hope I haven't sounded too negative and good luck!

Thanks DM, that site is fab, will be prowling around there a lot I think!

Snaf-wouls love to CAT you, thanks for the offer, but it wont accept my payment so can't do it, are you on the Mumsnet group on Facebook?

I'm not but I can put myself on in no time! My profile pic is the top of a small child's head, with a bright green grassy background Just send me a message.

Snaf · 19/11/2007 10:46

Oh, apparently I can't put myself on there in no time

Have a look for my profile pic in the Association of Radical Midwives group.

(I might just as well give out my name and be done with it! )

stressedoutandworried · 19/11/2007 11:03

OK, hopefully have sent you a message!

bratnav · 19/11/2007 11:05

Oops, must remember about name changes!
