If one of your kids had croup, did the other get it?

One with croup and two who never had it.

Sausagis · 15/05/2021 19:12

Nope, one with - one without

valleyplaza · 15/05/2021 19:18

No, one had quite a bad dose at one point, and the other was fine.

Croup is contagious for 3 days from the onset or until the fever subsides.
That being said, I've had 2 children who have had it and one that hasn't.

Mamamamasaurus · 15/05/2021 19:20

DC share a room - DC2 got it but DC1, not even a sniff of it, despite having asthma

Raindancer411 · 15/05/2021 19:21

Twin and I had it, sister didn't. I have a son who had it but baby is only a year, so I am hoping not, but who knows.

Raindancer411 · 15/05/2021 19:22

Sorry should say I am a twin who had it, sister didn't

Opalfeet · 15/05/2021 19:45

Thanks all. From what I've read it's not actually croup thats contagious but the virus that causes it. Croup is the reaction to the virus which some kids have and some don't, which is why I asked. I've got my fingers crossed the other one doesn't get it then. One trip to a and e is enough for one weekend

That's interesting @Raindancer411 I was wondering if genetics made some more predisposed to it. Maybe not, in your case at least

My one year old has a bit if a cough but it doesn't sound croupy yet, I guess I just wait it out and go to a and e if it worsens tonight?

Yes, that was what we was told to do with my son every time. Esp after the first few times he has trouble breathing, was a little scary. With him, it eased a bit as soon as we was outside in the cooler air. Hopefully it will stay "just" a cough :)

Opalfeet · 15/05/2021 20:12

Thanks @Raindancer411 that's good to know. Fingers crossed

Dd had it badly twice and my other two didn't catch it either time.

TheVolturi · 15/05/2021 20:21

When my dd had it her temp was very high, she was breathing very noisy and the cough was such an obvious bark, it also made her sick. She was given the steroids both times and it worked like actual magic!

Opalfeet · 15/05/2021 21:13

Yeah my boy has had steroids. Was a scary night as he kept getting attacks where he struggled to suck in air and was quite distressed. Think it took 6 hours for steroids to work magic, he seems a lot better tonight.
