DD is nearly 14 months and ever since she was three weeks old has insisted on being held during naps but sleeps excellently through the night.

DH has recently tried to get her to nap by herself as he is concerned about her getting older and not growing out of it. He is also worried about her coming to harm if one of us happens to drop off but we always make sure she is safe so that she can never come to any harm.

Is this normal or is he right in thinking she should be napping by herself now and not being clingy?

If she’s sleeping well at night and you’re well rested then I wouldn’t have thought you are likely to fall asleep whilst holding her for naps unless one of you has a medical condition you aren’t mentioning. That’s more a risk for newborns when you’re chronically sleep deprived. As for her getting older and not growing out of it, she will eventually stop napping altogether so again I don’t see that as a huge problem. Nursery could be an issue if she’s starting soon but you don’t mention that. It sounds like your husband just finds it inconvenient/annoying. Which I totally get but the nighttime sleep would be my priority and if contact naps mean she’s getting the right amount of daytime sleep to go down well in the evening then I’d personally be inclined to stick with them for now!

She will grow out of it, don't worry. You both sound like lovely parents. Xx
