Hats for newborn summer babies

My previous baby was born in November and used to dressing newborns in the winter.

Second one is arriving I July and I'm unsure whether they need to wear the little cotton hats at the hospital or right after coming out?

Yeah they do, I had mine in 25 degree heat and he still had woollen hat and even a hot radiator put next to him when he was born. Then after they wrapped him in 2 blankets and vest and babygrow! I was shocked myself tbh but apparently they need it the first couple of days

Never put a hat on either of my summer babies In fact I was paranoid about them over heating & having a febrile convulsions. Both survived with no apparent ill effects Grin

It isn’t really recommended to put hats on babies indoors. I only ever used them outside when it was very cold.

I had two summer babies. I was told by a midwife that hats are only on indoors in hospital and once you get home you don't wear them inside, so that's what I did and had a bucket type hat for out and about.

I also had a winter baby and stressed a lot less as it's more natural feeling to wrap baby in layers and blankets!

This is just pure curiousity, but did no one here have a hat put on their baby as soon as they came out? There was even a poster on the wall in my room saying how important it was

@user7891011
Yes my first one they put a knitted hat on as soon as he came out that was provided by the hospital and they advised me to keep it on for most of the first day.

That's what made me wonder if that was going to be the same in July. I can't imagine it will be. But so nervous about overdressing in the summer.

My girl was a summer baby born in the hot summer three years ago. None of the little knitted hats you get with newborn sets was needed.

However, she did have a cotton sun hat to keep the sun off her head from about a month old.
