A few reflux related queries

Hi ladies
My gorgeous new lo is 6 weeks old. She’s lovely but seems in pain and uncomfy when she’s awake . She still is sleeping so much in the day and falls asleep easily but when she’s awake she’s rarely content .
She grunts a lot and brings legs Up making very uncomfy sounds and this then builds up to
A cry and then a scream . I thought wind , but now I’m thinking reflux maybe? She spits up a bit per feed but recently I can see her getting distressed even when not spitting up and is gulping and then getting sad . I’ve got an appointment but not until next week . I bought some gaviscon over the counter for her like I remember doing with my middle daughter but worried about constipation . Anybody else’s lo on gavsicon? Did it work at all! Can gp’s prescribe ranitidine / omeprazole or is that done at the hospital
Now ? Thanks guys

Sounds like reflux to me! My DDs been on gaviscon since she was 5 weeks old (she’s now 1) and it did cause constipation but doctor prescribed lactulose (and now movicol). It didn’t help with the sick but it did help with the pain.

I think ranitidine has been discontinued and my GP said only a paediatrician could prescribe Omeprazole but I know lots of mums on here who got it from their GPs.

Keep her as up right as possible - naps in baby carrier if you can and use Infacol good results and no constipation.

Thanks for replying :)
That's good to hear gaviscon helped :) I'm going to see about the constipation too

Sounds like reflux!

Gaviscon didn’t work at all for my baby, so the GP prescribed omeprazole. It took a while to find the right dose but it has really helped now that we have. He’s still sick a lot, but he doesn’t show any signs of pain or discomfort.

Thanks guys
So glad omeprazole worked and the go prescribed it - did you have to fight for it ? When my daughter had reflux I had to get referred to hospital for omeprazole x

We tried gaviscon and it didn't work, also caused constipation. In the end the GP prescribed us omeprazole and it was a life changer. He's still sick but nowhere near as much but the main thing is it's actually taken the pain away for him. But it can take a while to get dose right. Luckily we've always managed to stay on the lower dose for weight.
Definitely push for the omeprazole if needed, also the liquid version as it's so much easier to administer x

So glad I have seen this as I think my 3 wk old has reflux & no one is listening or helping me
My lo started brining up milk within 24hrs of being born. This can vary from a small amount to nearly the whole feed. Which means she’s still hungry & she then cluster feeds too
She also seems in pain after feeding & will go red in the face & goes stiff when I try to wind also recently if awake she just cries.
Midwifes & HV have all said can’t be reflux she’s too young & just suggested giving her a dummy. Which I have tried but she doesn’t always like it
Any suggestions?
