Please help, 3yr old chronic mucus night cough

Hi all,

Really need some help!

My 3 year has enlarged tonsils, the doctors call them “kissing” tonsils. For the last few months she has had a chronic, mucas nighttime cough. She’s really suffering and up most nights (she’s coughing as I type).

I have tried nasal drops, humidifier, vapour rub, raising her bed one end...everything I can think of. The doctors have given us an inhaler on Tuesday but it’s not working (which doesn’t surprise me as I don’t think this is asthma related).

I am at my wits end. She is really suffering with her sleep. She also shares a room with her sister who also wakes up.

Has anyone been through this ? Can anyone suggest anything ? It sounds dramatic but every night is a struggle and I can’t keep losing sleep myself Sad

Xxx

Oh and almost forgot, think there might be a link between her tonsils and this cough !?

Very sorry to hear this. I went through similar with my daughter but it was asthma in her case so I can’t help with the cause. What I did learn through the process is that you need to be persistent with the doctors. You need to go to a different GP and then ask for a referral. Take all the evidence with you, how long it’s been going on, what you have tried and how it is impacting child and family. Be firm. Good luck.
