Bottle for breastfed baby?

Hello,
I have a 3 week old who is EBF.
I want to introduce a bottle of expressed milk once a day.
Can anyone recommend the best way to do this, and the best bottle to use?

Thanks

Can anyone also tell me the best time to pump so as not to mess with my supply?
Is pumping between feeds okay?

I can wait until 6 weeks if it's best, but I'd like to get a bit of a freezer supply going for when I have to leave baby.

Hi @bunhead34

Pumping between feeds works really well for me but play with it and you’ll figure out what works for you. I tend to feed baby on one breast and pump on another (but not every time I’m feeding, obviously). I personally Tend to have an oversupply first thing on a morning when baby has slept a few hours as he’s used to feeding quite frequently in the day, so that’s always the time I get the largest amount pumped

@Cloudyrainbows321 how old was he when you started pumping?

1 week. There’ll be some text book MN lecturers out there saying that’s not right but it was right for me and my DS. Had no issues with taking a bottle and no issues with breastfeeding and he’s gaining weight. He’s 9 weeks now and still predominantly BF but has an expressed bottle each day for me to have a break. Occasionally 2 if we have a vino!

In my purely anecdotal experience, I found that once my babies were gaining weight with breastfeeding, I had no issues introducing a bottle - 2 weeks with DS1 and 3 weeks with Ds2 because I had overactive let down and wanted to let that stabilize before increasing my supply.

I didn’t want to wait too long before introducing bottle as I was back at work when they were 4 months so needed them to be able to switch between both.

No issues whatsoever and if your baby is having plenty of wet/dirty nappies then start with one bottle a day and go from there. I pumped between feeds or so n one side when baby was feeding on the other.

DS1 was fine with avent to start, DS2 could have sucked milk out of a rock and didn’t care.
