Baby ate salty chips

My baby/toddler ate 4 chips off my plate earlier when we were out for lunch. I didn’t think anything of it until I tasted them myself and realized they were extremely salty! I feel terrible as he’s only 12 months. Could I have harmed his kidneys?

No

Motherofmonsters · 07/05/2021 18:37

I'm pretty sure they would have to eat a lot of salt over a long period of time to get I'll from it

fruitpastille · 07/05/2021 18:39

Bless you, I remember worrying about ham. No, it's absolutely fine.

i'd just give him extra milk and/or water, and not much else to eat until lunch tomorrow.
maybe some fruit.

SuperSleepyBaby · 07/05/2021 18:42

He’ll be totally fine- it would be different if he was eating lost of salt every day

alabaster11 · 07/05/2021 18:46

No.

paranoidmum311 · 07/05/2021 18:47

and not much else to eat until lunch tomorrow.

Really? He loves his food - I’m not sure he’d cope if he missed dinner!

If four salty chips are the worst thing your toddler has managed to eat, you are a better parent than most.

Flemingshat · 07/05/2021 18:47

In the nicest possible way, chill out. In the country I come from babies eat the same food as their parents, salt and all.

Astronaut8 · 07/05/2021 18:47

It’s fine. He may just be abit more thirsty!

HavelockVetinari · 07/05/2021 18:48

He'll be fine, don't worry! I think a lot of parents are too blasé about salt, but the incident you describe wouldn't hurt your wee boy.

This.

My eldest used to lick the wheels of his pram.

greatauntfanny · 07/05/2021 18:50

yep, that's it now I'm afraid, child is ruined, bin it and start again

BarryFromEastenders · 07/05/2021 18:52

You can definitely still give him his dinner! And anyway, aren’t children allowed some salt from 12 months?

LOL Love this! Grin

My 12 month old ate a flower, a feather, a sticker, and a lump of soil today.

I sound negligent, but honestly I'm pretty helicopter as a mum. These things just happen. And yet our kids survive :)

A few salty chips will be fine! May just feel a tad more thirsty :)

Be grateful it was a foodstuff ;)

Notsoaccidentproneanymore · 07/05/2021 18:54

Ds1 tried to eat a slug. Pretty sure 4 salty chips won’t harm your ds.

HappyMeal654 · 07/05/2021 18:55

Feed him as normal he will be absolutely fine 🙂

linerforlife · 07/05/2021 18:56

My ten month old ate a dead moth off the floor today. Promise yours will be fine Grin

Please don't not feed your child OP. What strange advice.

Four salty chips won't do him any harm at all. Feed him his normal meals and make sure he's drinking his water as usual.

Just make sure what ever he eats over the next day isn't high in salt if you want to be on the safe side.

MumofSpud · 07/05/2021 18:58

In the nicest possible way, is this your firstborn?

They will be fine Smile

Chelyanne · 07/05/2021 18:58

He'll just be a bit a bit more thirsty than usual with a bit of extra salt. No need to worry.

Crabbyboot · 07/05/2021 18:58

I don't know if it will make you feel any better but my 8 month old are some cat biscuits and soil todayConfused

No. Just feed your child as normal. The amount of salt will be actually negligible, unless you're saying they were rolled in salt and he actually had 40 of them!

Ignore the person who said that ...what odd advice Confused

Hallyup6 · 07/05/2021 18:59

He'll be fine. Feed him as normal and don't worry. Make sure he has enough water available and relax.

I've literally just had a conversation with the health visitor about my youngest, who very much enjoys eating Play Doh.
