When do linked sleep cycles begin?

I know the 4 month sleep regression has been done to death on here, but I think I’m on week 5/6 week of 30 min cat naps and I am starting to lose my mind. My little boy is sometimes only getting 2 hours of day time sleep. He self settles for naps, so when does the linking of cycles happen 🙈 hes in a dark room, white noise, 18 degrees etc

Night time sleep wasn’t affected, but now we are seeing 3-4 wake ups a night and he is exhausted 😓

Do they just start linking them one day and it’s like a miracle?

Mine often didn't really nap for longer than 45mins, sometimes an hour. So we didn't have long naps!

At 4 months I imagine most babies wake a few times a night.

My dd is 10 months and will occasionally link a cycle now but 30 mins is fairly standard here. She rarely has more than 1.5 to 2 hours sleep during the day but is generally cheerful otherwise so I didn’t see it as a problem to do anything about. I would just try and get more naps in if he’s tired and not happy in between, could you shorten his wake window a little?

Ours napped properly from about 5/6 months

Just for anyone also searching this topic in desperation, he can now link cycles and has at least one long nap a day. Started at about 6 months 👍🏻

@KCN2020 so was it a miracle then or did you change something and is he still doing it? X

Eldest could link sleep cycles at night from 3 months, no issue. She never ever learnt to link day sleep cycles, napped 28 minutes only after very long awake windows until she started to drop her nap at 18 months.

Sorry, not very useful but I have since met other parents who had the same issue and, since we all had differing approaches, I can only conclude that some people are blessed with children not bothered about napping.

Hopefully yours will be different though!

@OkNowTellMeWhatToDo I kept his routine exactly the same, dark room, sleeping bag, change bum 5 mins before etc and he eventually just started doing it. Think it’s just purely a developmental stage, unless you are unlucky and have a persistent cat napper!
I also found going from 4 naps to 3 naps helped with consolidation. Trying to squeeze a rescue nap in at 4-5pm was hellish and I just started a no naps after a certain time rule and it seemed to work

@KCN2020 awesome fingers crossed for us then 😂

As someone searching this topic in desperation, I’m grateful that you came back to post when it had changed!

@Hazzakay really funny that I posted this about my son, as my 3.5month old daughter is the exact same, 30mins on the dot or less ….but she is currently sleeping really well at night so I’m a lot more relaxed about it 🙂
