AIBU to move next doors car

Principessa2070 · 02/05/2021 14:30

Every morning at around 7am my next door but one neighbour comes out and turns his car ignition on and goes back inside, usually for about 20 minutes odd.

The car is really loud and I feel like teaching him a lesson, i am actually surprised he hasn't already had it stolen. The police literally warn against this all the time

I won't really. But aibu to be annoyed?

I wouldn't move it. I'd probably turn off the engine and post the keys through his letterbox.

It would drive me mental, what a waste of petrol and bad for the environment.

AnotherEmma · 02/05/2021 14:32

PS Did you mean to post this in Parenting or AIBU?!

insancerre · 02/05/2021 14:33

Thought that was illegal?
That would annoy me and I would have to say something

He leaves his car running for 20 mins? That's ridiculous. I'd start by politely asking him to stop.

Principessa2070 · 02/05/2021 14:34

Oh thats odd. I am on the app, and did press aibu, but it hasn't seemed to have worked. Sorry!!

That is so bad for so many reasons. Why does he need to do it?
Have you asked him to stop? I bet it’s not just you it annoys.

Principessa2070 · 02/05/2021 14:35

Yes it's every morning and it is driving me mad. He's done it every day I've lived here which is over a year now.

Our neighbour used to do this. Something about charging up something or other in his engine. Trouble is it's got a noisy engine and exhaust and he starts work early. Thankfully, he has done some work on it so it's no longer as noisy and doesn't need whatever it was warming up anymore, but it's still annoying.

DogsSausages · 02/05/2021 14:38

I thought engine idling was illegal now

Chelyanne · 02/05/2021 17:08

Well he's stupid to leave it unattended with the keys in the ignition. I don't know any car that needs 20 minutes to "warm up", think he's talking bollocks there.

Report him to the council, possibly falls under antisocial behaviour if it is extremely loud.

Needtheadvice · 02/05/2021 17:14

The warm-up is only valid for old cars if I remember correctly, modern day cars do not need warming up like that. Supposedly this actually does more harm to the cars than good.

Just pop out and turn it off.
