Toddler car seats

I’m on the hunt for a new car seat for my 14 month old. We expect him to be fairly tall so ideally up to 25kg.

We’ve got a Ford Fiesta ST so not the roomiest and so far the Axkid Minikid 2 seems to be coming up trumps for safety.

I’m not too knowledgable on car seats generally so does anyone know of these can be fitted with a seatbelt rather than isofix?

Any other car seat recommendations would be fab too :)

Thanks.

We have the original Axkid Minikid and it was originally in a 3 door Fiesta. It is belt fitted (I think most 25kg extended rear-facing seats are). It was a bit squashed for the front passenger in the Fiesta. We also have a Britax TWE which takes up a bit less room and was a good fit in our newer 5 door Fiesta.

@AegonT Thanks. I did think it could pose an issue for front passenger seat. Are we talking a “bit squashed” or really uncomfortable, probably should have got something else? Grin

I have a joie 360spin in my fiesta which is isofix but dh has the joie every stages in his focus which is belt fitted. It’s a little cramped in the front seat but still room for me at 5’10 to fit my legs in, I just can’t really have bags around me feet too.
Rear refaced to 18kg and then front faces to 36kg apparently looking at the details online now

Axkid Minikid is brilliant and fits with the seatbelt.

Britax Max Way Plus is another really good one which is a tiny bit more compact.

There's an album/article about fitting ERF seats into small cars here:

erfmission.com/you-cant-rear-face-in-small-cars-debunking-myths-4/

It's a few years old so some of those seats are out of date, but Max Way is the same size as Max Way Plus and Minikid is the same of course.

Couple of Ford Fiesta pics in the above album, including a minikid (mouse over to see the caption).

The 25kg ones tend to be a bit easier to fit into small spaces because they don't have the bulky isofix base and because they are more upright.

I think you've got confused with Joie every stage, Ohshit - the Joie 360 is 18kg both ways :)

BertieBotts · 01/05/2021 19:05

Minikid in a Fiesta - front space looks OK unless your passenger is tall?

Yes sorry I wasn’t very clear. I meant the every stage is up to 36kg as OP wanted to know about seat belt ones. I was just saying that I have a 360spin in a fiesta as comparison
BertieBotts · 01/05/2021 19:27

Oh sorry! :)

Canyouexplainhowthatis · 01/05/2021 19:30

Thanks all! Looks like the Minkid will fit fine then!

My 6 ft tall husband is very uncomfortable in Fiestas in front of the Axkid. 5 ft 6 me is ok. Both if us were fine in front of the TWE in the 5 door Fiesta (didn't have it in the 3 door one).
