Think son has taken drugs

Well I don't think I know!
He's 17 years old, just shouted me to his room saying mum what's that?? Nothing there. Then he's saying why is there flies everywhere in my room. There isn't!
He's also twitching a lot and his eyes are really heavy and he's sweating!

Asked him what he's had and he said he hasn't, just a few drinks, if he's had something then someone put it in his drink. I know he's lying!

Does it sound like with what I've described he's had mdma??
Any idea what I can do, I'm worried about him but also don't want to make him paranoid incase he takes a bad turn.

Don't know why I've wrote this post just a worried mum

Doesn’t really sound like MDMA, although anyone can have a “bad” reaction to drugs and start hallucinating. Just make sure he stays safe and hydrated. A bad experience with drugs will have more of an impact on him than you punishing him.

YellowGlasses · 01/05/2021 09:43

More likely he has smoked strong weed or taken mushrooms. Doesn’t sound like MDMA.

Well I found a small plastic bag in his pocket

He's in his room I keep checking on him and gave him a bottle of water. Also his eyes are wide open

It could be mdma but again it could be anything.

Just leave him be but be "around". Sounds like it could be a while before he comes back down to earth!

WarwickHunt · 01/05/2021 10:33

That sounds like psychosis brought on by stimulants - that and the twitching and sweating. There seems to be a small amount of white powder in the bag. It's total guesswork, but it could be cocaine, mephedrone or some sort of amphetamine.

Has he just got home or has he taken whatever it is for breakfast?

Doesn't sound like MDMA or coke in my experience. I guess it doesn't really matter what it is right now as long as he's safe. If he's only just dropped it you might be in for a long day...

WarwickHunt · 01/05/2021 10:40

By the way, some water is a good idea, but it sounds like a minor incident (the psychosis, not the subsequent parental fallout). He'll be fine as it wears off, but do keep an eye on him, as I'm sure you are.

Seventeen year olds do stupid shit, and you sound like a good parent Flowers

Owwlie · 01/05/2021 10:47

That sounds a lot like cocaine induced psychosis, and given the white powder in the bag I’d say it’s likely cocaine.

I used to work as an assistant psychologist for the nhs dealing with teenagers with a first episode of psychosis. We saw a lot who repeatedly took cocaine who ended up with psychotic episodes which in some cases ended up with episodes which lasted a while and required medication for a length of time afterwards (not trying to scare you, but I would explain to him after that this can happen to scare him!)

Keep a close eye on him at the moment, most likely it will wear off but if concerned you can take him to a&e to be assessed.

Talk to him after this and tell him how he was acting, hopefully this will scare him into not doing so again.

There isn't any white powder in the bag it's the light making it look like there is. So I def don't think it's coke.

I keep checking on him every 20-30 mins and I've only given him the 1 bottle of water not giving him anymore.

He came in about 10.30 last night, I went to bed thought he'd gone to bed but he said he went back out and came back in about 5.30 am. No idea where he went or when he took it, can't get any sense out of him.
He does seem to be coming round a little now so hopefully it's starting to wear off.

I will be having a good talk with him later today or tomorrow!
Hopefully this may have scared him a little and knocked some sense into him.

Thanks all

Looks like it could be mdma but doesn't sound like the right reaction, could be anything ecstasy related but he'll be fine, just on a different planet for a bit. Try give him some food and keep him hydrated, after a while he'll go to sleep and wake up fine!

dazzlerdo · 01/05/2021 17:20

He finally feel asleep about 12, he's just woke up seems a lot better. Still reckons he didn't take anything!!
I will speak to him tomorrow when he's "normal"
