Pooping on the Potty

Hi,
Has anyone any tips to get a child to poop on the potty?
One of my twin boys who is nearly 4 and a half refuses to poop on the potty. Nothing will induce him - treats, bribes, making a fun game out of it. He seems terrified of it- when I try to get him to sit on the potty he runs away! He asks to poo in his pants (nappy pants) and will often hold it in until he has the nappy on. I am getting worried now about constipation.
I haven't pushed it but this has been going on for months now and I really need to resolve it.

I feel for you OP, it's stressful, isn't it? I'm having the exact same issue with dd3, who is nearly 3. She is very strong-willed and point blank refuses and we end up getting distressed. I too am worried about constipation, so this is what I do.... Currently she wears normal pants, but knows that if she needs to do a poo, she can ask for pull-ups. So she either does this or waits until her nappy is on when she goes to bed. When she asks for her pull ups, I ask her to do a wee on the potty first and wait there til I get them. I hope that this will get the association of sitting on the potty when she is ready to poo and lead to feeling normal. In a week or two, I plan to ask her to sit on the potty wearing her pull ups while she poos. And then I'm hoping this will lead on to doing it without them. Fingers crossed anyway.

They don't like the feel of something leaving their body apparently, as though a bit of their body is falling off.

Mine was like this and honestly I just kept putting him on the loo regularly and letting him sit there with the iPad. One day we sat there for 45 minutes until he finally went. He was scared because he wasn’t used to going on the loo, but it’s just because it’s new - once he did it a few times he was fine.

Can you skip the potty and try the toilet?

I’d skip the potty at this age, the toilet with a step- also
Ditch the nappy pants altogether, take away the default option.
