Recently my LO went for a routine blood test however, we have now been told their blood is thick. They mentioned 'rare disorder' in passing on the phone but now my mind is overdrive before our next appointment.

Does anyone have any advice or experience with this matter?

TIA

I don't really understand what any of that means, but I would ask for copies of the blood results (you can request from the receptionist or if you have online access you can just look at them via the online system). If you know what the abnormal results are, you'll be able to do a bit of research so you can ask questions at your next appointment.

A quick google has come up with this: www.nhs.uk/conditions/polycythaemia/

But I would assume you would need to see the red blood cell count and haemocrit levels to see if that is what they have flagged up. Can you schedule a phone consultation or do you have email contact with your GP? I've been able to get quick answers simply by emailing the main practice email, which is then forwarded on to one of the GPs for a response.
