Tips for dealing with toddler tantrums

DS is (just) 2yo and starting to throw some proper tantrums. I try to be calm, not give in, distract him with something else, take him away from the situation.

Rational me knows this is normal and part of being a toddler mum. But I can't help but feel embarrassed and awkward when we're in public and he's wriggling in my arms, screaming red in the face.

Is there a better way to handle his tantrums? Or do I just need to grow a thicker skin?

Sounds like your doing everything right! It's horrible when they do it in public but just calmly talk to him and explain you understand he's upset it's not nice how we can't always have what we want, shall we go home and play with bubbles/ football/ cars etc etc.

At home I would just let them get it out their system and after a few minutes sit near by and quietly read a book or get the train tracks out to encourage them to play. Your right in that it's totally normal and not their fault they can't control their emotions yet!
