At what age will you let your toddler have a normal singel duvet?

My 2 1/2 year old has a small cot sized duvet. It is 100x50 cm.
I just bought my oldest son a normal singel bed duvet, and I have therefore a 70x140 size duvet spare for my toddler. But it is only 4.5 tog, and my oldest son was freezing in it. So, hesitant to offer it to his brother, althoug he is sleeping further from the window and closer to the radiator.

Is 2 1/2 too young for a massive big singel size duvet?

Normal bed = normal duvet in the frog pond. Or now I come to think of it, by the 3rd child, normal bed = whatever duvet/blanket combo was lying around the house spare.

Mine had normal duvets when moved into a bed.

Both my two got normal duvets when they moved into proper single beds at 2.5yrs. They don't seem to have a problem with them. Mind you DS1 (7 yrs) wakes up every morning with the duvet the wrong way round, so he has to be curled up in a ball to stop his feet sticking out the bottom so maybe he hasn't learnt full duvet control yet!

If you don't want to shell out for a new duvet, you could let him have his cot duvet under the single bed duvet. Most of him will be really toasty then and the bits that stick out will be at least covered by the 4.5tog one

My dd went into a proper single bed she was just 2 and had a single duvet then - she seems fine with it.

skidaddle · 12/11/2007 16:55

2 1/2 is fine - my dd had a duvet when she moved into a proper bed at about 22 months-ish

Wheelybug · 12/11/2007 16:59

dd was about 2.5

ChasingSquirrels · 12/11/2007 17:00

mine were/are both under 2.

All mine have had a normal size duvet from when they went into their beds but they started off with 4.5 tog.

QuintessentialShadow · 12/11/2007 18:07

Thanks, I have ordered a new duvet from Tesco Direct. Hopefully they will both stay warm now!

I'm going to attempt this with ds (18 months)at the weekend when he is moved into a proper bed.

Hulababy · 12/11/2007 21:25

DD had a normal duvet from being about 20 months old, on her toddler bed. Menat she stayed covered over better as it was biger. Was a low tog as she is a bit of a sweaty thing in bed. DD is 5yo and her current duvet is a 4.5 tog one.

TicTacsMum · 12/11/2007 21:27

What tog is a 'normal' duvet then? I'm thinking about putting dd into a bed with a single duvet but don't know what tog to get.
