Is this reflux?

My LO is 10 weeks old and ever since birth has struggled with constipation and gas.

HV advised changing to comfort milk and giving gripe water for discomfort. We also use dentinox. This all seems to have helped a little however for the past week I've notice LO is struggling again.

He arches his back all the time, and just can't seem to get comfy. He only takes about 3oz per feed and feeds every 2-3 hours. He will fight the bottle a lot of the time. He is quite wheezy a lot too and coughs quite a bit after or during his bottles. He pretty much refused to lie down except when swaddled. The past day or so we've had a lot of sore sounding screaming and tears. Today he's started spitting out a lot of clear liquid which smells sicky.

We burp him frequently during feeds, keep him upright during and after feeds.

I'm waiting in GP calling me with more advice but thought I'd pop on here in mean time. It's so hard seeing him like this.

Sounds like reflux, my DD was exactly like this!

BunnyRuddington · 15/04/2021 22:46

It could be CMPA causing the reflux. Do the symptoms sound anything like these?

OnNaturesCourse · 22/04/2021 08:44

I don't think it's CMPA. He does have the symtoms that mimic the reflux but no other ones.

We have been given omeprazole which is proving a absolute nightmare in getting into a little baby... But does seem to be helping a little bit so far, that and encouraging him to be less snacky and space out his feeds while offering cooled boiled water to soothe his inflammed throat (GP believes he has been "snacking" with his feeds as he's using it to soothe his throat etc)

Hi my little girl had these exact symptoms with silent reflux. She also has eczema. Medication helped but she didn't really get better until we cut out dairy so just something to monitor.

Did your little one sound quite wheezy?

@OnNaturesCourse

Did your little one sound quite wheezy?
Yes she did. She was on meds until she was 2. Now she is 4 and almost completely grown out of it. Good luck it is hard.
