My 4 month old got water in his mouth tonight when I was bathing him and I think he swallowed some. He didn't cough or splutter or show any signs of distress but now I'm super paranoid it will harm him... please reassure me!!

It will be fine. Apparently i used to drink it as a toddler if i got chance.

OolieMacdoolie · 13/04/2021 19:28

He’ll be fine, don’t worry.

BunnyRuddington · 13/04/2021 19:29

He isn't the first to have swallowed bath water and he won't be the last. If he's his normal self I'd just try to forget about it. Most second children have usually been introduced to far worse things by 4 months Smile

He will be fine. It wont harm him and if it had been testing horrid because of bubbles he would have coughed and spluttered.
Hes likely to also swallow swimming pool water, paddling pool water.
Mine also liked to suck bath water out of the flannel if I wasnt careful.Envy not envy!
I know he only seems so small but will be fine

They do that. Don't worry.

My daughter used to do this as a baby, she used to turn her head to the side and lap it up like a dog. Never caused her any issues. She's a very healthy twelve year old now.

YoBeaches · 13/04/2021 19:32

Completely normal.

110APiccadilly · 13/04/2021 19:32

I wouldn't worry (as long as it was a relatively small amount - you're not talking about him drinking half the bath, right?) It's just water, at this age I can't see how a small amount of it would harm him.

Aimee1987 · 13/04/2021 19:32

Yeah he will be fine. We stopped putting any bubble bath in my toddlers because he is a devil for drinking it. He used to have cup type toys for the bath which he drank out so so took them away and now he just puts his hand in or face straight in the water to drink.
The 20 odd time he drank it with bubble bath in it didnt seem to do him any harm. Your baby will be grand

Thank you all!! (FTM, obvs ;)

Yes @110APiccadilly just a couple of sips when he turned his head to the side!

My 12 month old actively drinks bath water.

Mylittlesandwich · 13/04/2021 20:17

DS now sucks his bath water out of a sponge but he was consuming smaller amounts at around 4 months. I really don't think it'll do any harm. The main issue with babies drinking water is that it has no nutritional value so they could fill up on it and not drink milk but a few sips won't have that affect. DS actually used to drink water around that age as he was constipated because of infant gaviscon. No harm done.

I remember doing that (flannel sucking - that sounds wrong!) Grin

DDs favourite drinks seem to be her bath and swimming pool water!

Luckily she has grown out of licking the bin.

TheVolturi · 13/04/2021 20:32

Awww. Don't worry op, baby will be fine! Mine drank the dogs water at not much older , I actually rang NHS direct because I was a total flapper, he was absolutely fine.
