I think it would be useful to have this. My 15 month old dd’s favourites;

Mog (the original one)
What the Ladybird heard
Spot books
Sharing a Shell (Julia Donaldson)
Also the DK books that have colours / a baby dictionary one with pictures.

TK Maxx generally have a big book section with lots of variety and are well priced. Worth grabbing a selection and seeing if your little one chooses any favourites.

A series called ‘you choose’ just full of pictures of things per page - hats/ shoes/ houses
Jeannie Barker collage books are lovely - a series of fantastically detailed photos of collage pictures showing things like a house or city street evolving over time - difficult to explain but my girls loved them- maybe for a bit older though.

We love Julia Donaldson's books. My favourite is Tyrannosaurus Drip or Room on the Broom. We got a bundle of 10 from Amazon, including those, Gruffalo, Gruffalo's Child, Paper Dolls, The Troll, What the Ladybird Heard, snail and the whale and a couple of others. We now have lots more!

I would also say the 10 Littles series, we started reading these when DD was 2, she's now 4 and is attempting to read parts herself. 10 Little Monsters, 10 Little Pirates and 10 Little Princesses in particular.

Other favourite picture books before 3 were
I don't want to go (and other Shirley Hughes books)
NoodleHead
Miffy series (esp Miffy at the playground)
A Squash and a Squeeze (Julia Donaldson)

We also have a nice illustrated book of the Naughty Little Sister stories which we used to read at bedtime.

My DD is nearly 3 and her current favourites are:

  • The Tale of Peter Rabbit (she's obsessed with anything Peter Rabbit atm!)
  • the Marlon Bundo book (can't remember the full title)
  • All the Underpants books like Aliens Love Underpants, Pirates Love Underpants etc
  • Loads of Julia Donaldson books like The Smartest Giant in Town, Room on the Broom, The Paper Dolls, Zog and the sequel,
  • The Girls
  • Each Peach Pear Plum
