Weaning help? nearly 7 month old will only eat sweet food

Hi,

I started weaning my nearly 7 month old about 6 weeks ago. For the first 2 weeks we did pureed vegetables only and she seemed fine with them (not eating very much but expected to begin with) every since she has had some pureed fruit, she WILL NOT touch anything savoury/bitter. She is perfectly fine with fruits/sweet potato etc, but obviously I don't want to be giving her sweet stuff all the time.

When I try her with different foods that aren't very sweet she just holds it in her mouth till she eventually spits it out and then refuses to open her mouth again. I don't want to keep having to give her fruit etc but I also still want her to eat something.

Any tips/recipes very much welcome!!

Could you combine the fruit and vegetable purées and gradually reduce the fruit? Babies will eat some weird combinations quite happily (spinach and banana was a big hit for us)

Is it too early to try yoghurt, bread, soft wafers - neutral rather than just veg?

No its not too early to introduce other types of food including finger foods. Bread, meat, dairy, pasta, rice, etc are all OK from 6 months

I think all you can do is keep offering the savory and bitter flavours and hopefully she will start to get used to them. I'm at a similar stage to you and my little one has definitely come round to veg a bit more after a very slow start. She adores things like toast, crumpets, mash potato etc so I normally try and add some bitter veg to those things ie broccoli and potato mash, spinach dip spread on toast

Omg OP i am in the same boat as my little one doesn't want vegetables or savoury stuff either and now even refusing to try sweet stuff as he thinks its vegetables. Bloody so stressful. Hopefully someone gives us some good ideas.

Try some of the Annabel Karmel recipes - she puts together some great combinations. Parsnip and carrot are great for combining with other veg, because of their sweetness.
