Poorly 1 year old

DS has had a rotten cold/cough/sore throat for about 5 days now. He also has diarrhoea (about 10 nappies a day). Some are huge and have leaked, covering his clothing and bedding then others not so bad.
But his poor skin is in bits. His bottom is bright red and was bleeding earlier, he literally shakes and cries when being wiped. We had been so gentle, tried using cotton wool and water instead of wipes, cream on too. But can’t really let him walk round with no nappy on as his poo is so bad. Any advice please?

Poor love. I've always found the yellow metanium brilliant for clearing up sore bums.

If it’s really bad have a chat with the GP. I like Timodene for really sore bottoms. Sometimes when they’ve been really poorly the balance changes and it becomes a fungal infection. Timodene should help.

I feel your pain. My one year old is exactly the same apart from the red bum . I hope you all feel better soon

I would suggest as much nappy free time
As possible and call your GP tomo?

Can you use the shower head on low to clean him up instead of wipes or wool? I have Crohns and when I'm having a flare any paper at all rips my skin to shreds as it's already inflamed. I just have a shower instead and it helps with the healing.

Thanks for your replies. I think I’ll call the GP tomorrow if there is no improvement. It looks awful and I’ve never heard him cry like that before 😩.
Having a nappy on really isn’t helping as he is constantly having loose poo so even when we are changing him instantly, the second it’s touching his skin it’s irritating it more.
I might have to lay some towels down and let him go nappy free.

@myknightinshiningwhatever sorry I think I replied as you were posting.
That’s a good idea thanks, I did consider running a warm bath with no soap but wasn’t sure if making the area wet would sting or prevent healing. But if it works for you it’s definitely worth a go!!

Warm porridge bath for the soreness. Helped massively with mine when they were poorly
