Lies you tell your children

I just told my 4 year old to hurry and finish dinner as the trees are closing soon.

The trees are at the end of our road and obviously don't close.

What lies have you told?

Mine is really quite awful and has been going on for almost 2 decades now.

I invented a little boy when my, now grown up, son was little.

If he didn't want to try a new food, or if he didn't want to tidy his room or get dressed or absolutely anything else under the sun I would tell a story about this little boy and how grateful and kind and well behaved he was. It was like and after school special with a moral at the end of the story.

Now 6 kids on this imaginary little boy is a massive part of our family.

DD (who no longer believes) was talking about him the other day and was reeling off all his injuries and misfortune in life and we were in stitches. Poor wee fella is lucky to still be alive.

Hes a bit like Santa now, the kids will find out when they are older that he doesn't exist, but, for now, he serves a purpose 🤣🤣

I won't be winning any parenting awards anytime soon.

Tooth fairy didn’t forget him last night, it’s just that every other time he’s been lucky to have had a visit on the first night - most people have to wait a few nights, obviously!
(thought on the spot for that one)

When the ice cream van plays music it means they have run out of icecream.

I don’t do lies to the kids. Takes more effort to Maintain than just telling the truth tbh.

Everything I don't want to share I say is spicy

McDonald’s often runs out of hamburgers in this house, but luckily they always have fruit.

DS believed he didn't like Crunchies for years. Such a shame when he got so many selection boxes at Christmas. Obviously I'd be kind and eat them for him.

Food is spicy if I don’t want DD to have it! Also that the police man will tell you off for opening car windows on fast roads (I just don’t like it)

EyeDrops · 05/04/2021 19:36

No doubt someone will call me the fun police but I really don't. If there's a reason we have to say no we just explain it!

scully29 · 05/04/2021 19:37

DifficultLemon I laughed at yours! We too have a family imaginary friend who has been with us a few years now. I can imagine now they will always be with us!

LockedDownn · 05/04/2021 20:39

@Hermie12 love this one

Chickenlickeninthepot · 05/04/2021 21:13

I do the food is spicy one too! Yeah, my ready salted crisps are way too hot for you to eat 🙄

Wheelerdeeler · 06/04/2021 21:03

We were at the trees tonight and big discussion about the lock for the trees Hmm

Swede makes you run fast.
DS doesn’t like prunes, but he does like giant raisins. So does his bowels.

I lied to my daughter last week when she came home and asked if it was me who had phoned the school to ask them to speak to her friend about starting free school meals. My daughter has been getting her friend lunch since they have been back and I have been paying for it
