Even when he does sleep its never for long, during the night he might get 8 hours broken up into 4 hours each but during the day he'll barely do half hour naps.

My boy isn't the best sleeper but did get better around 5.5 months.

Before that it just felt like we had to try something new every couple of weeks. He also fell victim to the half hour intruder when it came to naps. We got him out of it by letting him sleep for one sleep cycle for his first nap, but if he woke after 30 mins for his second nap I would rock him back to sleep until he'd had around 2-2.5 hours sleep. I watched a lot of Netflix during this period 😂After a week or so of doing this, he started sleeping past the 30 min mark. Babies can build up a sleep debt, so it's like they aren't fully rested after their longer sleep at night. Once they catch up and reset themselves, you will hopefully see a difference. My boy has naturally now fallen into a sleep pattern of 2 x 1.5 hour naps and sleeps 6.30pm-7am with a wake up for a bottle which works for us now. He still does wake occasionally after 30 minutes and I use this opportunity for a nice cuddle while I rock him back to sleep.

People can tell you it's all down to routine, but we've had such a robust routine since around 8/10 weeks and although now at 6.5 months his routine is helping, I used to wonder why it did nothing to help his sleep. I've come to learn that it was just the way he is, he needed his own time to adjust his sleep.

How does your baby fight sleep? Are they a screamer? Do you use a dummy? How long are they awake between naps? Do they show sleep cues? Mine didn't show consistent cues for the longest time!

It's so tough when all you want is some sleep. Do what you have to to get more sleep. Its there someone who can share night wakings with you?

4 hours is a very long stretch for a baby that age. Google the 4th trimester. What are you doing to help him get to sleep during the day? Sling, pram and rocking are all things to try.
