We live in Singapore so it's really hot all year round (not trying to make you jealous, just setting the scene!). DS (10 months) sleeps in pyjama top, 0.5 tog grow bag, air con.

Coming back to the UK for XMas and I'm wondering what he needs. Thicker grobags obviously but what tog? Will he be likely to need hats, gloves, additional covers besides grobag?

Hard to remember how cold it is from here!

2.5 tog sleeping bag, vest and sleepsuit should be fine to sleep in. Definately no hats inside as there is a risk of overheating. He will of course need a winter coat , hat and gloves for outside.

Where will you be staying - hotel?, central heated house, drafty mansion?

My DD sleeps in vest, sleepsuit and a 2.5tog grobag. Sometimes a think blanket as well as I keep her room quite cool.

Will certainly need hat, gloves and warm coat for outside.

Bring lots of layers, can't go wrong then!

2.5 tog grobags are what I use in winter with a top, or sleepsuit when very cold but you could use a 1 tog one with more under it. I guess it depends how warm it is where you are staying. I am in the West Country and it is nippy but not that cold- the kids room has yet to drop below 18 degrees at night and the heating isn't on upstairs. It will be colder by Xmas but I reckon it doesn't get really cold til Jan/Feb. Having said that, when I came back after living in California I definitely felt the cold more.

Sorry bit waffly. Must drink coffee!

Thanks ladies. My mum's house is an oven, my friends house is drafty ice-box, everyone else in between.

Bought daytime winter clothes when I was home last year, just occurred to me he'd need night clothes too.

ds1 sleeps in a sleepsuit / pj's and a 2.5 tog grobag. If his room is hotter than 20 degrees he wears a long sleeve vest or just his pj tops instead. He doesn't seem to feel the cold at all though! If you buy a grobag they have recommendations of what to wear depending on temperature and a thermometer in there too so that should help you.
