Formula help?

Hi, I’m a new mum to a beautiful boy who’s almost 9 weeks old. I started breastfeeding but for different reasons sadly only lasted the first week. I have put my son on mamia milk from Aldi’s and it’s great he has no issues with it, however I am wondering if when we are going out for the day could I give him aptamil ready make milk? I know it’s not good to use different milks but I worry about his bottles being made for too long if we are out or not adding the formula to the bottle when the water is just boiled, any advice welcome, thanks.

Maybe try him with a couple at home just to see if he tolerates it ok and then I'd say it's fine

ThatsNotTheTeaHunty · 01/04/2021 12:04

Course you can. That's what they're there for. I'd would try him on one before though incase he doesn't like it.
You use the ready made stuff in hospital as most don't have the facility to prepare formula.

@ThatsNotTheTeaHuntyi think the OP is worried about swapping from one to another. Formula is so tightly regulated that will all be similar to each other and breast milk varies too. I think the only problem would be if he is fussy and doesn’t want it so the younger to try it the better.

Cow and gate tends to cheaper than aptimil.

Thanks for the reply's, I want to keep him on the mamia milk and just use ready made if possible when we are out the house for the day but lots of people say you shouldn't use different milks so wasn't sure. It would only be the odd occasion when I used the ready made.

We used mamia and aptimil ready made. He had no issues.
However if you're going out and want to take mamia here's what we did.
1 small flask of freshly boiled water.
I small flask of iced water.
Tub of formula - measured out at home
Empty sterilised bottle.

Put boiled water in bottle and allow to cool a little (aiming for 70 degrees). And the formula and mix. Then pop the bottle into the iced water and cool until drinkable.

Hope that makes sense.

If you are using the flask method then you need to pre-measure the cold water and because once you add the formula the total volume increases.

Mylittlesandwich · 01/04/2021 14:06

Sorry no don't add the water to the bottle. We had one of the tommee tippee flasks the cold water went in a big cup and the bottle sits in it until it cools.

I use Aldi milk and it such a shame they don’t do readymade bottles! If I do have to use readymade bottles I use cow & gate simply cos that’s what DS had for his first few days in hospital. A change in milk can give bubba a dodgy tummy for a day or two but it shouldn’t upset them too much, just a bit of extra wind is what I’ve found.

Hi, my son is 12 weeks old and he’s very moany and is always bringing his legs to his tummy/arches his back, clenches his fists a lot too. I know these are colic symptoms but he doesn’t cry 3 hours a day, he just moans all day. Sometimes at night too. He really struggles to fall asleep and during the day he don’t nap for very long. He is formula fed and does green poos. He has some good and some bad days I just feel helpless just want him to be happy and pain free.

I’ve tried colic relief and infant gaviscon but not sure if it’s really done much.

I just don’t know what to do anymore any suggestions?

chillibeansauce · 03/04/2021 06:44

Aptimal ready made worked like a laxative for my two - total pooplosion! Our midwife also confirmed it was great when baby might be constipated. Would recommend taking the brand you would normally use and mixing it fresh when needed.

Have you contacted your health visitor ? They will be much more able to help than a bunch of randoms on the internet. It might still be colic even though your son doesn't cry. Hope he gets better it's horrid when they are so little and not well.
BertieBotts · 03/04/2021 06:55

Yes, this is fine. It's not even advised in other countries that you need to stick to one brand even for the boxed stuff - I find this a very UK specific perception! I think it's a marketing thing.

Certainly it's totally fine to use one brand of ready made vs another of powder. Mamia is made in the Cow and Gate / Aptamil factory anyway.

Itsnoteasyfeelingqueasy · 04/04/2021 07:30

I used Sainsbury’s own powder at home and cow and gate ready made when out with no problems

bleachblondemom · 06/04/2021 21:06

I used aldi formula but If I need ready made stuff I use cow & gate as DS had it when he was first born so I know he likes it
