Toddler snorting is a struggle.

Hello,

By snorting I mean the process of using a saline solution to wet my son's buggers and then remove them with a sucker or by getting him to blow a little. I sometimes have to do it because the buggers are too hard and don't let him breath properly during nap or sleep time. I do my best to try to avoid this by wetting his nostrils with warm water but sometimes the bugger is too deep and doesn't want to come out without a fight.

He hates it, with his soul. I end up having to lock his arms in order to get anything done. This clearly makes it worse, and at the end of the process we both are completely drained, and I feel like the worst dad ever.

The ship has long sailed on "make this a game", and I know this is my fault. I am trying my best to steer the whole process back into something likeable or at least something that can be ignored. I present it to him, I talk clearly about what it is for, I don't try to trick him into doing while he's not paying attention (I tried, and it was worse), I do it to his stuffed animals, I do it myself. I've gotten to him taking the saline solution bottle from my hands and quickly poking his nose with it, but that's it. I will keep trying.

Any advice from people that have gone through something similar?

Thanks :)
