Baby is refusing food?!?

My nearly 7 month old just has randomly stopped eating, or will have two bites and then be done with it. When I first started weaning him he was loving everything I was giving him and he's had most of the basic veggies you would introduce.

Not sure if I should be concerned In the change of appetite or is this just a phase? My 1st never did this so feeling a bit lost and worried.

Has this happened to any of you?

I'd say call your health visitor if you are worried. That type of question is exactly what they are for.

Not had quite the same thing but DC2 didn't show any interest in starting solids till nearly 7 months so I can't imagine it's too serious. Is his milk intake still ok?

Maybe mix it up a bit, if you've done lots of finger foods then try some spoon feeding, or vice versa?

Mine goes through phases like this very often, it could be that your baby is teething. As long as he/she is drinking milk it should be fine.

Ummumm · 29/03/2021 17:42

Yeah he's drinking milk as normal. I just wanted sure if this was normal or not. I'm mainly doing spoon feeding if I'm honest I know it's more old school but blw scares me!

Yep totally normal, my 8 month old goes through phases of loving food and then refusing some other times for a few days

MaMaD1990 · 30/03/2021 20:20

It could be teething, mine only refuses food when her teeth are hurting her

FTEngineerM · 30/03/2021 20:21

Pretty not and not anything to stress about at 7m.

Our DC (9m) has recently had his first cold and pretty much went off all food, was smashing the milk again and ate nothing but yoghurt and raspberries.

mynameiscalypso · 30/03/2021 20:23

Totally normal; I read that as babies become more mobile, they get more suspicious of food. It's some evolutionary thing to stop them being poisoned. DS is 19 months and still goes through phases when he seems to exist on air alone.

Spillanelle · 30/03/2021 20:27

They pretty much only need milk at that age so I wouldn’t stress about it if he’s having plenty of milk. Food at 7 months is more about getting them used to different textures and flavours. Just keep offering a variety of things to keep him interested.

GrumpyHoonMain · 30/03/2021 20:43

Let him try feeding himself some avocado or banana slices. It’s possible he just doesn’t like being spoonfed.

Urine infection can also be worth checking for. Some babies show no real symptoms but do have discomfort that lowers appetite.

MagpieSong · 30/03/2021 21:09

Although, milk would likely reduce too so unlikely actually. Sorry I missed that bit!

Thank you everyone for your reassurance! Really appreciate it.

Also will keep trying different ways to feed him and probably try some blw see if he takes to it better.
