Stair gate on toddlers bedroom door?

Hi all,

Recently changed DS from a cot to a bed because he started to climb and was found teetering across the top of his cot. This went fairly well - a bumpy first night but after that a couple of weeks of good nights - maybe he would get up once and we'd calmly return him to bed. He is 2 years 3months by the way.

Now he is going on nap strike most days but he does still need a nap. He won't stay in his bed or bedroom and have 'quiet time' with books / toys etc which I really would like to implement if he won't nap.

He was also previously getting up when the yellow sun came up on his grow clock and he now just gets up when he wakes up and the gro clock has gone out the window.

Will a stair gate on his door help? Will it make him feel caged in or make him rage?!
Anyone else done this with success?

Thank you 😊

I think it depends on your toddler. We have a similar system and our 2 yr is fine. After lunch he says bedroom and enjoys listening to his tonie box while playing with toys or books while my 1 ye old naps in her room. He’s always been really chilled about it but his personality is chilled in general so he wouldn’t be bothered where as my nephews would prob just have climbed over or shouted in annoyance

My boys are the same age as yours (we have twins) we put a stairgate on their bedroom because one always tries to escape while you're tending to the other 😂 ours are fight napping too, there was a bit of grizzling the first few days but they've got used to it quickly and know now when the door is closed they can't get out. It helps n the night too, they'd gotten into the habit of waking up and wandering out onto the landing 🙄 even though there's a gate at the top of the stairs I don't want them wandering about upstairs 😂
