Baby can eat anything you can including egg, except whole nuts and honey. Just be careful with salt amounts.

We just gave what were eating as a mix of spoon food and finger food. We never did baby foods.

For example today I had weetabix for breakfast, soup for lunch and steak pie with cabbage, mashed turnip and mashed potato for dinner.

When mine were babies they would have had most of that as spoon food with the meat at diner as finger food.

My baby loves hard boiled eggs cut into quarters, she picks them up herself and eats them. She also does that with soft pears.

My baby also loves Dahl, I try to adapt what we are having and she has it the next day for lunch.

My baby loved sweet potato at that age.

I cut into big chunks, roasted in the oven. Left it to cool & peeled off the outer skin as it had gone ever so slightly crispy.

He loved holding it himself but it was still soft enough to gum.

Are you wanting to do baby led weaning (baby feeds themselves whatever they can hold) or are you looking at purées?

Don't concentrate on quantity of food. At this stage it is just getting them used to the idea of eating & experiencing new tastes and textures.

They will still need to get their sustenance from milk (breast/formula).

Offer water with meals too to get baby used to drinking from a cup by themselves. Ideally an open cup but at 6m it was a bit overwhelming for my DS so he used a zippy cup. But worth a go, your baby might get on better with open cup.

Me again - sorry!

Would recommend getting on Instagram and start looking at weaning & baby led weaning tags. There are some fantastic accounts on there for ideas for meals/snacks.

I dipped a toe, started looking every now and then and now follow about 50 accounts that are brilliant. Never have to struggle for meal ideas again.

Fusilli and penne were a lifesaver for us at that age. The DC can pick them up easily, and you can pour on any sauce you like, as long as it's not salty. I used to get Ella's pouches and use them as pasta sauce when I needed something quick.

Half-cooked vegetable sticks (e.g. carrot) are also good - not so squishy that they can't be picked up, but not so hard that they can't be eaten with no teeth.

As for how much - you can just let them keep going until they start throwing it instead of eating it Smile
