Solicitor help - Parental rights?

Im a single parent, my dd's "father" didn't want anything to do with us at the time of the pregnancy, hasn't been involved ever. Never made contact etc.

Anyway, i am in the process of making a will and have been told that even if i appoint a guardian if i were to die the biological father could still come forward to claim responsibility. He is not on the birth cert.

Is this the case? How do i prevent this from happening if so?

Im sure he never would want access, however if he knew my daughter came with a substantial amount of money then he would for that purpose.

Could i request him to waive parental rights in return for me never going after him for money? So that i do not flag his attention for any other reasons

We made a will recently, we appointed a guardian and a trustee of the will. These can be different people, so maybe appointing a trustee, who I think would be looking after any money, will reassure you a bit. So even if he did claim responsibility he would not have free reign over any money. If he’s not on the birth certificate, to my knowledge he has no parental rights at the mo, he’d have to DNA test if anything happened to you and he wanted guardianship. Lastly, although your lawyer has said he could make an appearance, it’s doesn’t mean he would be successful, especially if it is against your wishes and you’ve appointed a guardian who knows your child well. I’m no legal expert though, I would discuss further with those doing your will.
