Getting a child's eyes checked

Dd has complaining of her eyesight sometimes being blurry for a few months now. I've mostly chalked it up to her generally liking a moan and also spending too much time in front of a screen (zoom half the day and then watching tv the other half when I've been in meetings). But now that she's back to school, she's continuing to say it bothers her so I want to get her eyes checked. She's in Y3 so not really the standard age when they would be checked at school. How do I go about getting them tested? NHS says go to your GP or to an opticians. Is one better than the other? I assume opticians are open at the moment? But it seems sensible to avoid the GP unless I have to as I can't imagine they'll be keen to see her in person. Where am I meant to start?

Make an appointment with an optician. Pointless to see a gp. My ds had an eye test last week so you should be able to find one that will give your lo an eye test.

My dcs get an annual eye test- only one of them wears glasses.

The gp will just refer you to the optician. Best to get them checked there first

Optician will be able to do an eye test at that age

We just went to a local optician, ours is still open for eye tests .

Just make an optician appointment. Did she get checked in YR?

No need for a GP.

troppibambini6 · 25/03/2021 16:01

Yep no gp just book her a test at the opticians.

RedGoldAndGreene · 25/03/2021 16:02

Opticians are open as it's medical.
Kids get free eye tests so it's a good idea to get them tested anyway.

Should have eyes checked every year as a kid. Just call a local one and book an appointment. We have had them done during lockdown
