Curious - how often do you change DCs nappy?

Just that really...how old is DC and how often do you change their nappy? 🤔

I’ve just seen a post on the Peanut App where a woman said she changed her 6m old DD when she wakes in the morning, before she goes to bed at night and only during the day if she does a dirty nappy 😳 surely that’s not the norm?!
If it is I’m changing DS faaaaar too often 🙈

Much less now she is older - morning 7.30 ish, before nap 12 ish, mid afternoon usually about 4 ish and after bath new nappy and then whenever she has poo. She is 20 months.

Obviously if her nappy is more full or if something changes eg stays up late after her bath due to long late nap then I change her nappy again before bed.

Hmm that doesn’t sound enough and I’d be worried about them getting sore although I’ve never actually asked other people! After the newborn phase of doing it loads then I do it every 4 hours or when it’s dirty so say 7am, 11am, 3pm and before bed. My DS is 12 months and I’ve been doing it like that for a while but varies a bit depending on him doing a dirty nappy.

OverTheRainbow88 · 25/03/2021 11:03

Nursery seems to change my sons nappy at 9, 11, 1, and 4- then extra for dirty nappies.

I prob change first thing in morning, before lunch time nap, once in avo , before bed

Almost hourly when he was a newborn (he did a lot of poos). When he was six months I think it was still about six times a day - it was technically only when he had a dirty nappy, but he had a lot of dirty nappies!

Amrythings · 25/03/2021 11:06

Mine is 22 months and it's usually six or seven times a day? He goes to nursery in the one I put on at wake up, they average about four a day (mid-morning, after nap, the poo one and before home) and then we change him for bedtime. Pretty much the same pattern at home.

Obviously if someone has been a fool and let him eat half a punnet of pears or something the changes go way up.

Potterythrowdown · 25/03/2021 11:07

That baby must have a nappy round their knees by bedtime!

4mo - before every feed so roughly every 2-3 hours during the day and then whenever she's done a poo or if he nappy seems very full. Longer stint overnight from about 10-7am as she sleeps through at the moment and I'm not waking a sleeping baby.

DS has long been potty trained but usually 4-5 times a day as a toddler, I used to have to change him mid way through the night too because he leaked every single night.

Aria2015 · 25/03/2021 11:07

My baby is 6 months and I change her 4ish times a day. When she wakes and then either before or after each nap (she has 3). In the night she can go all night without a change if she sleeps through which I suppose is no different someone not changing them all day? Although, I find that she wee's more in the day because that's when she's feeding the most so maybe it is different? Either way, I never ignore a poo or a heavy nappy.

Anotherunimaginativeusername · 25/03/2021 11:11

Every 2-3 hours plus when there's a poo. I'm using cloth nappies though so you can't have so long between changes. In disposables, about every 3-4 hours.

Megan2018 · 25/03/2021 11:11

We use cloth and use 5 nappies per 24hrs on average, DD 18 months. Sometimes only need 4 but nursery always do 3 changes.

Roughly 3-4hr changes in the day and 1 night nappy.

Bluebelltulip · 25/03/2021 11:14

DS is 15 months old and I change him every 3 hours in the day using reusable nappies + poos. When my DD was in nappies I did 4 hours + poo unless full before but with her I used disposable nappies.

MM321 · 25/03/2021 11:27

@user1493413286 Yeah it’s something I’d never thought about either! It’s not really something that’s ever discussed 🤔

I’m similar to @Potterythrowdown - I do wake up, then at each feed (DS tends to poo half way through his bottle 🤣), after bath, at dream feed. My DS is almost 5 months and still wakes at 2.30/3am for a feed so I change him after that too (he falls back asleep during the nappy change - would leave this change if I thought it would wake him up). Obviously any extra poos etc then we change accordingly!

Immediately when dirty, or when it seems full - usually about every 3-4 hours. Usually pop him in a reusable on waking up, then a proper wash and fresh nappy after breakfast and before nursery. DS is 13 months.

Always tried to avoid changing overnight unless it was dirty, as it woke him up too much!

nitsandwormsdodger · 25/03/2021 11:44

1.5
Once in morning
He goes to nursery
Once in Eve before bed

purplejungle · 25/03/2021 12:02

Every 4 hours during the day unless it's dirty. Don't change overnight. Ds is 10mo.

ChocOrange1 · 25/03/2021 15:07

Just turned 1.
She almost always does a poo within half an hour of waking up. So I don't change her at wake up and change her after breakfast when she has pooed and get her into daytime clothes. It seems a waste to put a nappy on when I know it will be dirty in 10 minutes.

Then I usually change after her naps so around 11 and 4 and then a fresh one before bed at 7.

MM321 · 25/03/2021 17:26

@ChocOrange1 I do the same with DS sometimes. If he doesn’t poo at his last bottle before bed then he always does at his 7am bottle so I just wait lol

4 months and I think we go through 5 nappies a day

Caspianberg · 25/03/2021 18:16

I try and change him roughly every 3 hrs if he’s not been changed. Obviously straight away for poop.
It’s around 6 nappies per day. He usually poops most mornings after breakfast so that nappy is only on around an hour.

We use reusable nappies. They could last longer ( he wears the same nappy all night), but I don’t think it’s pleasant sitting in old wee! He rarely has any rash.

MM321 · 25/03/2021 21:13

@Caspianberg Yeah I can’t imagine leaving DS sitting in anything too long either 😓 I do think during the night is different - nobody should be waking a sleeping baby unless they need to 😅 I only change DS because he still wakes for feeds and I can’t imagine putting him back down wet. The though of that woman leaving her DD in the same nappy all day if there was no poo made me feel a bit sad 😓

OP posts:
BobBobBobbin · 25/03/2021 21:18

How old is the baby? When they were small I rarely changed unless there was poo as there was so often poo! So I could have said the same but I would still be getting through 6 or so nappies a day.

ThatsNotTheTeaHunty · 25/03/2021 21:19

That made me sad and would worry about an infection of some sort.

When DS was small I used to change him before every feed even night time or if he had done a poo.

He's 20 months and has his bum changed in the morning and whenever he needs it done.
Usually mid morning, before afternoon nap, after dinner. Then after his bath and again before bed.

candlemasbells · 25/03/2021 21:22

I think when mine were very tiny about 10 nappies a day. Dd is 7 months and between 6-9 per day. I always change dirty nappies, before nap, before bed, before bath (not necessarily at night) and I just check for wetness throughout day and change when needed

CoalCraft · 25/03/2021 22:20

Since DD's been home from hospital stress been changed more or less before each feed, so seven times a day on average. Obviously if we know she's dirty or very soggy we change her straight away. She's currently 4 mo

CoalCraft · 25/03/2021 22:20

*she's not stress

Jubilate · 25/03/2021 22:25

Hmmm, nappies these days are so absorbent that I can't really get worked up about infrequent changing. The worst that's likely to happen is a heavy nappy. And if it's disposables (or even reusable when washing is factored in), the last thing the world needs is 6 largely unused nappies in landfill.
