Curious - how often do you change DCs nappy?

Just that really...how old is DC and how often do you change their nappy? 🤔

I’ve just seen a post on the Peanut App where a woman said she changed her 6m old DD when she wakes in the morning, before she goes to bed at night and only during the day if she does a dirty nappy 😳 surely that’s not the norm?!
If it is I’m changing DS faaaaar too often 🙈

At that age I used to change ds all the time! He was still waking for feeds at night at that age so he was probably changed 8-10 times over a 24hr period (he’s used to poop a lot). Now he’s 27 months it’s more like 4-5 times a day. Hopefully he’ll be potty trained soon 😬

BertieBotts · 25/03/2021 22:35

In the morning, in the middle of the day and before bed.

He will usually do a poo at some point so he might get an extra change. It will be 2-3 nappies per day, unless he poos twice. At 2.5 years old but probably about the same since he went down to pooing once a day which was probably 8 months or so?

Disposable nappies are really absorbant. We have occasionally forgotten and he's not been changed all day Blush it's not very nice but it doesn't bother him.

I think nursery have 1x extra change scheduled in but currently he doesn't go all day so he only gets one change there.

I do think it's different at night because they wee less in their sleep and also when they're walking/crawling around and playing it's not nice to have a full nappy swinging around. Whereas when they're asleep they probably don't notice.

eensyweensySpider · 25/03/2021 22:52

13m DS, I change him first thing in the morning and every 3 - 4 hours (ish) thereafter unless there's no2. I also try and time changes before naps so he can go to bed dry and comfy, same if we go out during the day, I like to leave the house knowing he's dry.

DD15m - using cloth nappies

on wakeup - 7:30/8
after lunch (and before nap) 12:30-1
afternoon - 4ish
night nappy 7ish
and any poos - which sometimes coincide with the "planned" changes.

So 4-5 a day normally. Sometimes more if she poos a lot. earlier this week, she "asked" for a new nappy ( she went to her changing mat, got out a nappy from her box, and laid down and said "Noo-noo" (her word for nappy🤣 ) - I duly changed her... 3 minutes later she did a poo!!!!! so another new nappy. (she now gets to sit on the potty and read a book until she gets bored/gets up if she asks for a new nappy ... just in case it wasn't a coincidence LOL)

My baby is nearly 11 months old. I just change her whenever she's wet or does a poo. Sometimes

CloudFormations · 26/03/2021 05:48

My baby is 4 months. I change him roughly every 2-3 hours plus whenever he does a poo.

Cowgran · 26/03/2021 13:10

Oops. Started a reply hours ago and then got sidetracked.

During the day I just change my 11 month old whenever she wees or poos. Sometimes it might mean she goes a few hours without a change, other times she'll have two changes within an hour. Without fail she has a new nappy as soon as she wakes up in the morning and a fresh one at bedtime, but overnight I don't wake her to change her unless it feels quite heavy or smells.

Peanut91 · 26/03/2021 13:28

My DS is 2.5 and I change his after breakfast, late morning/lunch, mid afternoon and before bed plus any dirty nappies

FTEngineerM · 26/03/2021 13:34

9m

Poos not long after waking so 6:45 ish, then at first nap 9:30 ish, then after second nap 14:45 ish, then 17:00 and again after bath before bed.

None through the night unless he wakes up and cries and it feels heavy.

FTEngineerM · 26/03/2021 13:35

And if he poos in between obvs

Dollywilde · 26/03/2021 13:40

7 month old, very roughly 6 times: 6am, 9am, 11am, 2pm, 5pm, 7.30pm. Plus whenever she has a poo which is usually once or twice a day.

DressingGown87 · 26/03/2021 23:17

5 months old. 7.30 Usually on wake, 9.00 getting dressed (usually dirty), 10.15 after morning nap (usually heavy), 12.00 before lunchtime nap, 15.00 before afternoon nap, 17.00 before dinner (usually dirty) and then 19.00 bedtime. So about 6/7 times,’possibly more if there are anymore dirty ones. In the first few weeks I think she was on about 13dirty nappies in 24hours as she was CMPA.

2020newmum · 27/03/2021 06:44

DS is 11 months and I change him 4-5 times a day. He’s never had nappy rash!

AegonT · 27/03/2021 20:10

We use re-usable nappies. We change the daytime ones every 3 hours or for a poo. The night nappy lasts 12 hours. When we use disposables when we are on holiday without a washing machine I do the same.

Depends on the nappy. Some premium nappy brands specifically tell you only to change shitty nappies immediately, and to wait 6-12 hours between changes otherwise to prevent nappy rash. It does work.
BakewellGin1 · 27/03/2021 20:20

DS just turned 2... When he wakes up (approx 7am), approx 10am, 1pm, 4pm and 7pm... Oh and usually 1am ish (he drinks a lot and is always wet so change when he wakes during night once.

Amichelle84 · 27/03/2021 20:40

8 month old is changed when he wakes up and before every feed and any that may need doing in between, usually around 6.

LittleLionMan23 · 27/03/2021 20:48

DS is nearly 2.5. At home it’s only 3 times a day - first thing in the morning, mid afternoon and then bedtime. Plus any poos get changed straight away in addition to this. It gradually dropped to this as he ate more solid food and less milk, so poos were more infrequent. He never gets a rash.

MySocalledLoaf · 27/03/2021 20:54

I do exactly what the poster said she does, morning, after bath and when dirty. Very occasionally if it looks bulky but it doesn’t happen often as there’s usually a dirty one in the middle of the day. I don’t use expensive nappies but their skin is never wet so I think modern nappies are quite absorbent. My two have only ever had any redness or rash when teething, and they otherwise have very sensitive skin.

5zeds · 27/03/2021 21:42

I did mine whenever they pee or poo.

BertieBotts · 28/03/2021 10:37

How do you know when they have done a wee?

5zeds · 28/03/2021 11:23

In a disposable nappy the padding swells and in a cloth nappy the cloth gets wet, you can also usually smell it.Confused

Dyra · 28/03/2021 11:31

DD is 18 months. I change her nappy in the morning, after her nap, and before bed. Naturally whenever there's a poopy nappy as well. Done it this way for ages. It works for us.

00100001 · 28/03/2021 12:59

@BertieBotts

How do you know when they have done a wee?
Also in disposable there's often an indicator strip on the outside that changes colour
FTEngineerM · 28/03/2021 13:56

@00100001 that’s only up to size 3 though, any bigger and it’s just looking for a ‘heavy’ nappy.
