5 month old making low, sad, grumpy sound for two weeks

My baby is clearly unhappy. He keeps making this low unhappy sound for the majority of the day and I don't know the reason. He's feeding and pooing as normal, I'm wondering if he is teething? He has the symptoms but has done for a month and I can't see a tooth coming through and teething gel doesn't seem to help. I'm worried that I'm missing something, that perhaps he could have an earache or something? It's just the sound he makes truly saddens me.. it's hard to explain but he's clearly unhappy. Has anyone else experienced this?

Oh poor thing. Teething can go on for weeks with nothing really happening. An estate is also a possibility though so it's definitely worth seeing your GP.

I will add that DD(2) has gone through phases where we thought something was really wrong because of the board she was making. Then we realised that she just really liked making a certain noise and she was actually fine. So I'd check it out with your doctor, but don't worry too much yet!

My DD went through a similar phase at around 4 months and the pediatrician said it was probably just her discovering her voice. They find a noise and repeat it a lot for a while until they find a new one to make. She did get over it after two weeks and started grunting instead!
