Does anyone nap or am I lazy?

DS is 21 months and I tend to get about 5-6 hrs sleep a night sometimes broken, sometimes straight.I still always feel so tired and so often have a nap when he naps over lunchtime for 1-2 hours while my DD is now back at school. I feel guilty that I don't get things done in the house but I always seem to feel so groggy and tired that I want to take advantage of nap opportunity! Whenever I mention that I've had a nap to another mum they laugh that it's a real luxury and say they could never do that because that's their only chance to get things done... which makes me think am I actually being lazy for having naps like this? Should I suck it up and be more productive? Is it normal to still feel tired with this amount of sleep?

Don't feel guilty, I always slept when mine slept. It's lovely, enjoy it.

I nap most days. I don't mention it to people generally!

Sometimes I go to bed at 8pm as well. Sleep is important.

Power Napping is awesome!

I have two kids a preschooler and a toddler (16 months). I nap ALL the time! On my days off with my youngest when she naps. On my wfh days in my lunch hour instead of eating. I love a nap my family all nap! They sleep well at night so my only excuse is they’re bloody exhausting when they’re awake so I need sleep! My house is pretty clean and tidy as well 😇.

RandomMess · 23/03/2021 19:22

Only times I ever napped was when I was anaemic whilst pregnant and then when I had vitamin D deficiency.

I am envious of those able to nap!!

Kate3150 · 23/03/2021 19:35

My DS is 15 months and I still nap most days xx

RosaBaby2 · 23/03/2021 19:37

I nap at every opportunity!! My 2 year old naps and I nap every day when he does, unless I'm at work Hmm

marie8989 · 23/03/2021 19:42

Ugh I wish I could nap! But my body doesn't let me unless I'm utterly exhausted! I've 2 children under 2 and I've probably napped about 4 times since they were born.

If you feel better for napping then definitely keep doing it Grin

spaceghetto · 23/03/2021 20:07

I miss nap times so much! I would have one a few times a week with ds2 and absolutely loved it. I never felt guilty, like you I had broken sleep so it was good to catch up. Plus, housework will always be there but naps will one day stop. Sob.

daisyducky · 23/03/2021 20:16

It pisses me off when DS takes his only nap of the day on the way home from the morning nursery run as I don't get a nap / down time. My SH activity encourages my naps 😂

daisyducky · 23/03/2021 20:18

My DH above

FinallyHere · 23/03/2021 20:19

With only 5-6 hrs sleep I night, I don't think I could function. #teamnap

AnyFucker · 23/03/2021 20:19

I have two grown up children and I nap whenever I feel the need

Chicchicchicchiclana · 23/03/2021 20:21

Totally in favour of naps if you can do it.

Amrythings · 23/03/2021 20:24

I'm back at work/DS is in nursery so not on weekdays, but at weekends I nap when he naps. He mostly sleeps through but when he wakes he's up, even if it's 4am.

DH takes picture of us passed out on the sofa for future blackmail material.

MissingTheMoonlight · 23/03/2021 20:27

Same here OP.
I'm not tired until 1am (well I am tired but wouldn't be able to go to sleep iyswim) and DS wakes up at 7am. He also wakes a lot in the middle of the night.
I always nap with him if I can and feel zero guilt!

CreamFirstThenJamOnTop · 23/03/2021 20:36

I work part time and on my non -working days I’m at home with DS who is 22 months. He has a 2 hour afternoon nap and I usually do a quick blitz of chores for 30 mins, read for 30 mins and then nap for an hour. I always set my alarm so I don’t miss the school run for Dd! 🤣
Oh and I get about 7 hours a night on average, usually uninterrupted, so not too bad really.

Scbchl · 23/03/2021 20:37

A nap is one of my favourite things ever.

CreamFirstThenJamOnTop · 23/03/2021 20:38

Oh and at the weekend when ds naps I do one day with a nap and Dd has 1:1 with DH. The other day DH naps while I’m with Dd.

Crocidura · 23/03/2021 20:40

Getting enough sleep is really, really important for good health. Take your chance for a nap whenever you can, especially if your nights are disturbed.

9ofpentangles · 23/03/2021 20:47

I still nap on my days off. Mine are at secondary school

Maggie900 · 23/03/2021 20:50

I nap with my little one. I probably nap. 3 times a week with him for same reason you have stated.

Keha · 23/03/2021 21:57

I love a nap, I nap with my DD who is 1 if I'm not at work. I do housework when she is awake, she either helps or goes on my back in a sling! I've always been a napper though.

Potterythrowdown · 23/03/2021 22:29

I love naps. I try to have one on DC1s nursery days, depending on whether DC2 will lie down & sleep by herself.
