I am sure this is normal 3yo big brother behaviour... but

My ds is 3 and a bit and dd is nearly 19m - they are ofetn lovely together and often awful - normal. But I am concerned about how much ds hates sharing his toys with dd and how he shoves her over and snatches toys off her.

He has just annouced to me that he will 'eat all {his] toys so that [dd] can't play with them!' I am not sure what I can do other than encourage playing together and rewarding 'good' sharing behaviour.

Well case in point justhappened dd sitting happily on beanbag watching In the night garden - ds comes in shoves her off and sits on bag! Lovely

perfectly normal for his age I think!

sounds like my two at the same age!
It does get better - mine play really well together (most of the time )

Who's bean bag is it. I have 2 dd's who fight more often than not. Although they do have times when they are expected to share they also have strict guidlines on this is your sisters toy and you can only play with it if she says so. You have your own things so why cant they. On the other hand if it is a family beanbag then he needs to know that this behaviour is not acceptable.

It is totally normal. Agree you should continue rewarding the good behaviour and encouraging sharing.

Make sure that he knows the boundaries though and which behaviours are unacceptable e.g being rough with her.

I seem to remember mine saying something very similar. Mine are now five and four, 16 months age gap. I have to buy identical toys even the same colour or all hell breaks loose

Unfortunately it is a bit tricky with the beanbag issue at the mo. Singy as we have 3 one for ds (which is covered in choc milk and out of commission) one for dd which ds helpfully shoved under dining table, and one 'other' which dd was lying on... so I told ds to get off the bag and he promptly got dd bag out and ordered her to sit on that one -

I hate these petty squabbles - I am looking forward to the time when dd is old enough to advocate on her own behalf. Then of course I will have to turn into Judge Judy when deciding which one is telling the truth!!
