Baby not upset at being left at nursery

So I realise this is a ridiculous feeling but I have just left my 10 month old at nursery for a 1 hour settling in session. I was expecting her to be upset or uneasy and was really worried about this. She was all smiles, couldn’t be happier to see the nursery staff again.

I was so worried she would be upset as with COVID she has only really been with me and her Dad but she was really happy. I think my feelings are hurt 😂

It shows she is absolutely sure you will be back for her! Well done. I think you should feel proud and delighted Flowers

Madness isn't it?

I recently moved a year old baby on to adoption and he left me without a backward glance (which is lovely because he has bonded really well with his adopters and I am happy about it but it did hurt Grin ), whereas I can't even go to the loo with the little one I have now. He's a year old too and becomes hysterical if I so much as leave the room for a minute, woe betide me if I walk away from the trolley in Tesco and someone else looks at him Wink!

Enjoy it while it lasts. In a month she could be screaming the place down when you leave her. Just be glad she's so happy.

My DD was the same last year - we'd just come out of the first lockdown, so not as long as a year but she had been very clingy nonetheless. I was allowed in for the first session and was surprised how quickly she formed a bond with one staff member. A week later we did another session where I left her for an hour and when I came back she was happily sat in the garden with the other kids and looked disappointed that I had come back for her! Even the staff said 'I'm so sorry but I don't think she's missed you!'

Almost a year of nursery now (she started at 11 months) and she strolls in every morning without even a goodbye or kiss to me or dad 🤣 she does get excited to see us at pick up now though which is nice!

You clearly have a confident baby who trusts you. Well done!

Mine are 15 months, never been and I swear if I left them with new faces and toys they'd learn to say bye just to make sure I left!

Bubbles1st · 22/03/2021 15:30

I think I would be more upset if she cries when you go to pick her up!
Good job mamma on the confident and outgoing girl you've got

Exactly this. Well done.

Both have mine have been like that. I felt sad too!
It means they’re independent and happy 😃

I think it’s a development thing; in another month she’d probably have cried a lot. My DD started childcare at 10 months and was fine whereas my my DS is 12 months and cries!

Thanks all for your lovely comments, I collected her and was happy to see me (which is a relief 😀).
