Booster seats after highchairs

Ive started to think about what comes after highchairs as I think my baby is a couple of months away from transitioning. Is it a booster seat that attaches to a normal chair? Does anyone have any recommendations? Id like him to be strapped in. Thank you!

We never actually used one, she was in a high chair until about 18m when she started wanting to sit with us on a dining chair.

We didn't bother. High chair then normal dining chair. We did buy a little toddler table and chair set for crafts, and sometimes use that if it's just my eldest eating a snack or similar.

We currently use this one for our nearly 4yo DS as he's tiny. He likes being able to sit with us at the table.
You can have the tray attached if their too small to reach the table or you need to use it away from a table, or you can fold the bar down and push the child right up to the table. It also folds so you can take it out with you, and things can be stored in the base when it's folded up like bibs cutlery etc.

2yo DS just uses this on one of our normal dining chairs. He's only recently come out of his high chair.

Just throwing out an alternative option- we've got an IKEA toddler chair- cost about £30, looks similar to our dining chairs but sits 3 year old at good height for the table

sylbunny · 20/03/2021 16:10

My daughter is short bless her so we have a toddler table and chairs at home and then we have a booster seat that's folds down like @Figmentofimagination posted but without the table for going out. If we forget it, she's still small enough that we can use a highchair or a cushion at a push!

minniemoocher · 20/03/2021 16:35

We used a booster seat that strapped to I the chair until about 6 as it helps them reach better

skkyelark · 20/03/2021 16:42

We have a cushion similar to PP's, although we were very tempted by the IKEA toddler chair -- decided it was better to have the flexibility, though, as the cushion is easy to take with us if we go to stay with family, etc. (someday...).

My 20 month old isn't ready to cone out of her high chair yet, but I'm looking out for a second hand Tripp Trapp for when she does. I reckon she'll be two at least before the transition.

orangejuicer · 20/03/2021 19:26

We use one, it works well for us. I'll try and find a link!

It just straps underneath a normal chair.

Iwasonceabrownie · 20/03/2021 19:28

We never used one. Just an ordinary dining chair with a cushion.

Thanks everyone!

We use this too. DS wasn't safe in his high chair after about 16 months but he still needs to be strapped into something.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 20/03/2021 19:31

We had our twins in high chairs for aaaages till we got them Ikea Urban dining chairs. Would be concerned about a booster chair coming unstuck or slipped off.

Potterythrowdown · 20/03/2021 19:59

We had the cheap as chips Mothercare one (got it on Facebook marketplace) which worked well for us as we only used it for about 3 months in the end.

DS either sits at the dining table or uses his little IKEA table & chair set.

CreamFirstThenJamOnTop · 20/03/2021 20:05

Dd was in highchair until about 2 1/2 and then used a Prince Lionheart booster seat on the chair, then at about 4 she moved to just a cushion. She’s very small though!

DS moved from his highchair to the booster seat (Dd old one) at about 18 months and now at 21 months I reckon he’s almost big enough to sit on the chair normally.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 20/03/2021 20:12

My son is on the 98th centile, so I reckon he'll fit for another few months (and perhaps tolerate another few months), but then ill have to move him.
