Carobel

Hi there,

I'm thinking of adding carobel to my LG's formula bottle.

Although she's generally a really happy baby, she's sick so much it's really starting to get me down.

She's sick during feeds, after feeds, and between feeds so pretty much all the time, although she's putting on weight great and doesn't seem to be in pain (apart from after feeds she's quite uncomfortable for around 10 minutes).

I'm worried carobel is going to cause constipation and then she'll be really upset & uncomfortable.

Has anyone used this for reflux and had good results?

TIA Smile

I didn't use Carobel, but I found different bottles (mam) were better than others for flow and stopped DS gulping down milk super fast. Additionally, we kept him upright for 20-30 minutes post feed without fail. Have you tried smaller feeds more often?

Carobel made my DD really windy and she had explosive nappies but I know some people swear by it.

As PP said a change of bottle might be all that’s needed.

Thanks both! I've tried Dr Brown bottles and also different teats to no avail. I've also tried feeding little and often but she can be sick even after 1oz. I keep her upright for around 30 minutes after feeds but her sickness is so sporadic it's just at any time unfortunately! Some days are worse than others but she's often sick 1-2 hours after a feed too. x

DS2 had reflux. We used the MAM bottles, ranitidine and Carobel. They were the absolute holy grail for us.
Other products caused constipation but the Carobel didn't.

Carobel saved my life!

My poor baby really suffered with reflux and this was the only thing that worked. We did have to experiment with the dose (packet is quite vague!) but once we had that down, he went from struggling to drink 1/2oz and crying to having 6/7oz per bottle and just being a bit fussy

Good luck!

Eggcellent29 · 14/03/2021 22:19

Word of warning - it gets thicker over time so make sure you’re ready to use the bottle right away and no making it up ahead of time!

yikesanotherbooboo · 14/03/2021 22:25

I'm not sure that I understand your your motivation. If your baby is growing and happy or they are thriving what is the problem?

cg23hw · 15/03/2021 02:06

Thank you @Eggcellent29 I will make sure I use straight away. I'm used to giving it to her as soon as it's made which is good.

@yikesanotherbooboo although she is happy, being sick sometimes 30 times a day isn't something I'm happy about and feel like it can't be good or nice for her so if I can find something non medicated that may help I'm willing to try at least.

My LG 7 weeks has reflux throws up after virtually every bottle. Similarly we kept her upright for 30mins pace fed etc you name it we tried it to no avail! She’s currently taking 4oz a feed we put 1/2 scoop in her milk only been on it from today but my god what a difference she’s been sick twice! And only a small amount compared bringing what did seem like the whole bottle back up. I’m hoping this carobel helps. She’s still fussy crying and a bit unsettled but nothing compared to usual. Very early days so I’m cautiously optimistic x

How much did you put in? My baby is on 4oz and use just under 1 scoop as he won’t drink it if too thick.

JJ2022 · 27/09/2022 17:22

Hi did you find out what it was, did she have an allergy to the milk ?

Cryptonfactor · 27/09/2022 18:57

no Allergy we found out when she was about 13 months that she actually had an umbilical hernia which was likely causing her reflux

cg23hw · 28/09/2022 16:37

@Catherine1986 My LG has been off it for around a year now but I think I gave around 2.5 scoops for 8 oz bottles. If the one scoop works then great! If not, it may be worth upping it every week or so, so he gets used to the new thickness over time

@JJ2022 There was no allergy and we actually never got to the bottom of it. The only thing that helped eventually (other than the carobel) was when we started weening her, she was off of the carobel by about 9 months. So it still took some time but she needed less and less as time went on. She has no reflux related issues at all now. I hope that helps slightly.
