Where do you sell your cloth nappies now nappylady has closed down their ads?

Have a few things I want to sell before we move house and not sure where best to list them (other than on here which I'd prefer to avoid as the for sale board is so busy).
Are there other nappy sites for selling used nappies you have tried?
TIA

ha! nowhere! I've been trying to shift a few nappies for ages now and no luck whatsoever.
I've posted on bumfluffnappies' classifieds, masiemog's nappy blog classifieds, uk parents lounge, haven't tried www.usednappies.co.uk (is that right?) it's supposed to be like an ebay for nappies but all just seems a bit complicated for me. Also tried the for sale boards on here but that's just pointless.

Personally I've given up, I'll just pass mine on to any friends that might decide they want to try cloth in the future. And I would never ever tell anyone that resale on nappies was high because ime it barely exists! (and it can't be cos of the prices I ask because many timest I've not put prices at all and just left it open to offers - and still no bites!) not sure why this has changed so much just with one seller shutting her classifieds.

lemonaid · 07/11/2007 08:59

It's ebay going as well, though -- there used to be loads and loads of nappies on there and it kept values high. What are you selling, by the way?

It is really annoying. The fact that you could sell on was one of the big pluses of cloth nappies, IMO, and now it's almost impossible to do.

Pannacotta · 07/11/2007 10:43

Thats not good, real shame about the Nappy lady. I used to sell on all my nappies there
HAve MEOS, Popolini one size, Tots, Ellas House and Bamboozles.
Oh well...

Hi I have sold on the used nappy web site successfully and uk parents lounge. I put some fuzzi bunz on the classified section here too and got a great response

lemonaid · 07/11/2007 13:30

What size Tots and Bamboozles?

throckenholt · 07/11/2007 13:31

it used to be easy - one of the good things about cloth nappies - but now it seems to be nigh on impossible (grrr). Will be watching this thread with interest.

CarGirl · 07/11/2007 13:32

Cloth nappy addicts is the only other place but you have to be a member for a month before you can use the buy & sell boards. The more unusual nappies are popular though.

I'm still trying to sell my Hempresto nappies and wambamboo

pinkrangernowwobbles · 07/11/2007 13:34

i also agree, i have listed all mine on here on the last few day and hardley any response - and they are new! ( as you say the boards or so busy).

DynamiteDaisy · 07/11/2007 13:41

link to usednappies.co.uk

I've registered, but haven't sold anything yet, but one of the women on my PN thread has sold lots on here.

ebay USA has started allowing 2nd hand nappies again I believe, so maybe the UK will follow suit?

Pannacotta · 07/11/2007 17:55

Thanks all, will check out the sites mentioned.
Lemonaid they are all size 2 (Rainbow Tots and Bamboozles).
Such a shame that nappylady classifieds has gone as it was also a great way of trying out nappies on the cheap before committing to buying them new.

If you know the tricks you can still sell used nappies on ebay without them finding out but importantly making sure they buyer knows what they are getting. Done this quite a few times successfully.

Used nappies is increasing in popularity since NL closed down its classifieds.

IMO I think it is up to cloth users to ensure the success of these new sites as buying second hand is such a huge part of using cloth. So I think we all need to give the new sites a try and get the word round to fellow users.

If you're looking to buy, do check out the sites listed as at the moment the 2nd hand prices are pretty low due to a lack of buyers knowing where to look (just picked up 22 hardly used bamboozles plus 4 wraps for £50 inc postage ).

Pannacotta · 07/11/2007 21:48

Coby many thanks for the tips. Can I ask how you sell used nappies on ebay without them being pulled?
Have added the links to my favourites too, will have a good look tomorrow.

I do think 2nd hand nappies are an excellent idea but I do think they should be set at a reasonable price for the condition and useage... and Coby it looks like you got a fab bargain there !

Local councils do often offer a cashback scheme when buying new nappies as to encourage their use and we should have to factor in the useage we have got from them against the cost of buying disposables when coming to sell. So, what I'm trying to say is that I dont think we can really expect to 'make' that much out of them when we no longer need them.

Over the years I've sold loads of nappies at my NCT nearly new sales for £2 - £3 each maximum and guess what ? ... I always got rid of them

coby · 08/11/2007 11:56

Pannacotta - I thought someone might ask that!

First trick is not to choose new or used from the pull down menu when listing just selcet the '-' instead to leave it blank.

Be careful with your wording - I just tend to not put any reference to condition whatsoever.

Invite questions about the item in a prominent place on your listing - I always get people asking the condition of the nappies.

Put a sensible buy it now option so that they can be purchased before being discovered (that one works a treat at the moment and I have sold nappies in under an hour several times and got a price I was happy with).

You can either email bidders who haven't asked about the nappy's condition to make sure they are happy or let it run to the end and if the winning bidder hasn't asked let them know about the condition and give them the opportunity to back out of the sale without any issues.

Best not answer any questions from ebay nappy traders.

Of course you might get caught out but it is a chance you take. I don't rely on ebay now for my nappy sales but I have noticed a lot get through second hand these days.

btw saw the same nappies on ebay being sold as new which were also listed on usednappies as having been well used. Now that really pXXXXXXs me off....

Pannacotta · 08/11/2007 22:36

Thanks Coby. May try ebay though I prefer the idea of supporting the second hand cloth nappy sites, as another poster said this is part and parcel of using cloth, IMO anyway.

Poor old nappy lady she seems like such a helpful sort

OP posts:
Flibbertyjibbet · 08/11/2007 23:15

Nappy lady also says that she was really fed up of people advertising their own makes of nappies and wraps etc for free on her sites instead of paying for their own marketing.
Just before it was pulled there were people selling new WAHM nappies, longies and wraps made to order!
You need to watch out for that flame!
I have put all my nappies in the loft till I find a good outlet for selling again. No way am I going to give them away. in terms of what someone can save on disposables, they are worth a lot of money so anyone that wants them will have to pay me for them!
Coby - if you get caught out deliberately flouting the rules on prohibited ebay goods they will close down your account so you won't be able to sell anything at all. I decided not to risk it.

Maveta · 09/11/2007 08:49

I totally agree with flibbertyjibbit, If I paid £9 for a nappy and then barely used it and it is in perfect condition, I am not going to sell it on for £3. I've bought second hand and paid pretty reasonable and fair prices so would expect the same. And if I can't get a decent price I'd rather pass them on to friends/ family in the hope of converting!

Flame · 09/11/2007 10:24

I don't mind WAHM made stuff being sold tbh - if people want WAHM stuff then they will go and find it regardless, if they want the named things they will get that from me iyswim.
