Birthday cake in nursery

Hi! So it's my son's birthday tomorrow and he was attending nursery for the day today. He's turning 2, and although I'm planning on baking a birthday cake tomorrow I totally forgot about sending one into nursery, as I've never had the situation arise before. The nursery however had a lovely birthday cake in there today and there were lots of lovely photos and I'm worried now that they got him one because I never sent anything in, or is this something a lot of nurseries do?? Do they think I'm a stingy cow or would they have even let me send in a cake with all the allergies kids have these days??

DD turned one in December and I sent cake in - i got the impression from nursery that it wasn't unusual. I don't know if it's expected though or anything like that

We’re not allowed to send cake in. We can either pay extra for a cake they provide or they just sing happy birthday etc over pudding.

I didn't send cake the day before and my ds didn't get cake from the nursery, they did make him a card though.

Ours uses a fake cake with a candle on it 🤣

Was it a real cake? Some places have a fake cake they roll out to sing to and blow out the candle.

Don't worry about it. Just thank them when you see them.

Cross Post....I think this is quite common.

I just found out from my husband that it was also another boy's second birthday, so I suspect they may have brought it in! So I'm now the mum who stole another child's birthday party 🙈 a bit embarrassing!! I genuinely thought with Covid and allergies it wouldn't be a thing, I guess I'll know for the next time! It was a real cake, looked lovely

It it makes you feel any better my DS was also turning 2 at nursery yesterday and I didn't even think to send in a cake!! However he did have a little party (funnily enough with another child turning 2!), and there was cake involved, soooo I guess I'm that parent too!! To be honest though I think it's just safer not to...!

Nursery worker here. In my setting some parents send cake in and we cut it up and send it home with the children. It's quite common but definitely not expected so don't worry. Perhaps it was another little one's birthday aswell, hence the cake?

GreenandPinkFlowers · 13/03/2021 00:39

Oh sorry, just saw your last post about it being another child's birthday too. Honestly don't give it another thought, they won't think any worse of you. You made him a lovely cake for home that's what counts 😊

My DD has been in nursery for over a year and I think there’s only been about 3 times that someone has brought cake in so I wouldn’t worry
