Anyone recognise this type of rash? 6 week old (pics)

So my bubba is 6 weeks old and poor thing has had a rash for weeks which has been getting worse & doctors say it’s infantile eczema and am currently using dermalo in bath & zerocream. It started as a few red circles on his back and then redness/spots all over his cheeks and neck, the reason I’m asking for advice is because it’s almost like 3 different rashes! It’s the red spots, the sunburn type of rash and he also has lots of white head spots on his neck, front and back, some are pretty big. Oh and behind his ears and earlobes also completely scabbed up and started to peel and it’s now happening on his back and cheeks. Also there is literally nothing I’m using that could irritate his skin, nothing in the bath, I don’t even cream myself with anything scented or wear any perfumes etc. We use one fairy non bio tablet in the wash for his clothes and that’s it. Any experience/advice would be appreciated, thanks!

Food intolerances can also cause eczema flare ups. Is he breastfed or on formula? You might want to tweak something in your diet or with his milk.

Mine had baby acne like this.

Keep doing the glass test in case, otherwise keep checking with the doctors if it changes or persists

Definitely go back to doctors. Dont worry about feeling daft. Kids come first.

I have been to the doctors twice this week second time was today as it got much worse and was told to stick with the creams and I am due back next Tuesday to see if there is any improvement.

@geojellyfish I actually queried a cows milk allergy but doctor said it’s not an allergy type rash and he would have explosive diarrhoea if it was. And he is formula fed - aptamil 1

Could be cmpi intolerance, but could be a number of things. In my experience GPs aren't great at diagnosing this. I'd push for a referral to a paediatrician if I were you.

miltonj · 11/03/2021 19:29

Yes that definitely looks like infant eczema, my daughter had it at that age too. Try not to worry but if you want reassurance then contact health visitor or pharmacist.

Coconut oil really helped clear it up for my baby. The Kokosi baby brand. It smells lovely too!

miltonj · 11/03/2021 19:29

*kokoso. You can get it from boots

GPs are generally not good with this sort of thing. Your baby's rash looks exactly like my DS's rash when he was a baby. I went back and forth to the GP and was given multiple creams but the only thing that worked was when DS self weaned off formula at about 14 months.

He still won't drink milk aged 8 and if he has too much cheese etc he gets very gassy.

Freshair85 · 11/03/2021 19:36

This looks just like my babies eczema, we went dairy free and although it hasn't cured it it is a lot more manageable, we are now waiting for allergy tests (currently weaning)

Thank you for all the advice. It’s just so heartbreaking to see him so uncomfortable and I’m desperate to find the answer to it all. I think all I can do is wait it out on the creams they’ve prescribed maybe a week or 2 and if no change just push for a referral. I assumed cmpi would have other symptoms though like vomiting or diarrhea. He is very uncomfortable during some feeds but I assume it’s more wind than anything else but I really don’t know. The guessing is horrible!

Change your washing powder to something like Surcare. You don’t need softener.
With mine I found that none of the creams I was given did anything. But Elena’s nature collection did.

Bumblebee111 · 11/03/2021 20:30

@DinosaurDiana thank you! I’ve been online all day trying to find something to wash his clothes in that won’t irritate his skin
