Brushing teeth while teething?

My baby is going through a teething phase and clearly in much pain a lot of the time bless him. We've only just started brushing his teeth after the first two teeth showed through recently. When we brushed yesterday he sobbed afterwards and was unsettled the rest of the night. I was gentle of course but do I leave it a few days until his teeth / gums are less sore?

Personally I did leave it when my son went through really painful days. I can't imagine how sore it must be in there and I certainly wouldn't want someone touching my mouth when in pain. In my mind a day of not brushing was a non issue for a young baby

Could you try a chewy toothbrush? It's soothing and gets a bit of toothpaste on the teeth.

Put some anbesol on a baby toothbrush and give it to him to chew. It will numb his gums and give them a little clean at the same time.

Going through this at the moment with my 20 month old. I still brush twice daily to keep the routine uo, bit do it very gently as she does get very upset. I do feel guilty though as it must be so sore!
